Looking for an all around camping light from Fenix or Surefire

I usually prefer a headlamp for camping. I prefer to work with both hands and usually combine camping with fishing so that's my priority. They usually gives a good flood and lights up the campsite well and on lower setting works well when hung in the tent. Petzl Tikka 2 XP.

listen to this. a headlamp is so much nicer when camping; nothing's worse than trying to set up a tent in the dark with a hand torch balanced on a rock or holding your light in your teeth while you cut up dinner. petzl and black diamond both make really good headlamps, and I use a princeton tec that switches between 4 small leds for a floodlight and one super bright spot. in the tent, though, I hang a fenix P3D with the diffuser tip from a carabiner so my wife and I can both read with just one light.

I have recently purchased the fenix ld20 with the head band and have used it fishing at night time and it was a great combo to purchase. I regret not getting the diffuser cause I can see pointing the ld20 up on the head band and having sort of a fog light. I am ordering one soon. I imagine the ld10 would work as well.

I hope that isn't a joke...

I have had Streamlights before, and I'm not impressed by it at all since cheaper alternatives came out.(name Fenix)

Waterproof is a given, it's rare that a flashlight is not water proof to some degree(Creek water, splash) and most Flashlights made by Fenix do have IPX-8 Rating, 3ft submerged water proofness.

67 Lumens with 7 LED's, even that if it will run for a long time, it will be insufficient for more than shining at my own feet

From my perspective:

I have owned Fenix, Nitecore, 4Sevens, Surefire and Streamlight, along with a ton of other unworthy junk lights that I regret ever buying.

Out of all of my flashlights, the largest one I have, Fenix Tk12 R2, has the most throw. Throw means range, and it's never bad to have that since you can convert the throw into flood light with Fenix's diffuser. Do note that the flashlight is capable of using RCR123 and 18650 Lithium batteries, way longer run time than AA batteries and is rechargeable.

I also enjoy company with my 4Sevens Quark AA^2, it's simple, small and uses AA batteries, something I wouldn't worry too much about since the cost is relatively cheap.

I recommend buying a TK12 R5, and a diffuser for it to have the ability of flipping the cover on for Flood light or taking it off for throw.

fenix ld 20

someone in another light forum is selling a used one at a good price

I really like the Fenix MC10. I haven’t used it yet for camping, but I will the next time I go. It comes in handy for a lot of different tasks, but it’s sort of marketed specifically as a camping light. It works pretty well as a headlamp too.

Quarks from 4Sevens.

They also come in warm/neutral white which imho works a lot better than normal cool white leds in the woods.

Warm whites: http://www.4sevens.com/index.php?cPath=297_310

I prefer the tactical ones since the switch is better and switching between high/low is done by twisting the bezel (no clicking through modes)
