Looking for an all purpose bowie

For what you are looking for I would start with a user BK9 from someone here on the exchange. I worried it would not fit my needs but it is a great knife, the grip is so much more secure than you would ever think by looking at it. I have and like my Trailmaster but if I had to pay $350 for it I would never have purchased it. I would also highly recommend the Scrapyard 911 the regular model isn't as pointy but the military overrun model has a more acute point , it has the curved clip you mentioned on other knives but on this model is quite stabby. I hope this helps some.

The Ontario Marine Raider Bowie SP10 tip is pointy enough to stab.

Yup, just what I was going to say.
Its acute point was designed for just that.

A point can cut and an edge can stab...you can stab with a spoon if you're determined enough.
And a lack of a guard is made up with proper technique and hand strength.
In fact, a lack of anything is made up with proper skill.
Remember, it's not so much the tool and it is the wielder.

I digress...
So, anyway, at the end of the day, I say get whatever you fancy. If you don't like it, sell it and find something else. Take your time and enjoy the ride.

Yes, the Laredo would have it all, that´s right, and I would have bought it long time ago, but I didn´t, because of the tang - a cable tang, which I don´t trust.

Thanks, I suppose the Marine Raider may be a good choice.

I purchased the CS bowie machete the other day just out of curiosity. Its hard to beat at less than $20, though it is ugly as sin.

It's not meant to be negative. I like the knife and have had one since the 80's. In that group the Ontarios were cheapest. Nicest? Debateable. Crowell Barker Maybe? Nicest? Ontario Next Gen. Toughest? Ontario next gen, or Ranger tied with Svord. Best Cutter/Chopper? Crowell Barker.

I still like the Cold steel but I gave my opinions. I have all of them and that is a list of my opinions on what is what..

Sorry, I know that is wasn´t meant negative, I used a wrong expression. Maybe if the Crowell Barker would have a guard, I think it can be better than the TM. I also have just been viewing some videos of the Marine Raider, and it´s an impressive knife - but no lightweight with it´s 27 ounces.

Folks, can anyone name a time that someone has actually broken a cable tang from a Laredo Bowie? I was skeptical at first when I got my Laredo, but the balance is amazing and I have had no problems so far with the handle or tang. The handle will break before the tang... really the only way to break a cable tang is to cut it. That said, my go-to bowie is a C5 Trailmaster in a Southern Comfort sheath by Mike Sastre.
