Hi guys I'm thinking it's about time to upgrade from my railroad track anvil anyone in the Pennsylvania area have a anvil in the 80 to 100 lb range they're willing to part with

If budget is driving your choice of anvil I can understand. But if possible, look for an anvil in the 120-200lb range. The mass of the anvil will help move metal more efficiently.

You can not do buying/selling in Shop Talk. Please edit your post. It should say something like, "I'm ready to step up from my RR track anvil. Does anyone in the PA area have any suggestions where to start looking".

I would check Craigslist as well as the Central Maryland Blacksmith Guild.

I watched a video on YouTube where a guy talks about finding an anvil and how to go about it.
Start inserting it in every conversation you have with people.
Mention the fact that you're searching for one on social media and even offer a finder's fee.
I did what the video recommended and found out one of my coworker's father has had one sitting in a barn for years.
It took a few months to coordinate, but eventually worked out.
Check Craigslist too. They're on there occasionally, but be ready to jump because the good ones go fast.

Farm auctions can still be good at times
If you know any farriers they can be worth asking too. For some reason people will occasionally give them an old blacksmith anvil they have laying around, and blacksmith anvils are rather useless for farriers.

Around here (Washingtion state) its cheeper for me to buy a new one. People want so much for old anvils that it's not really practical to get one when a new one is just a little more. Spokane is just a little over an HR drive away from me and thy have rhino anvils. There papa rhino is 240LBS and $1250. People around here want upwards of $5-$8 a pound for old used anvils.

Finding old anvils isn't too hard. Finding big ones in nice shape for a reasonable price is.
I've got a 142# Peter Wright, but when I eventually upgrade I'll probably just order the biggest peddinghaus instead of trying to track down a 3-400# Peter Wright
