I am the very proud owner of the SYKCO DFLE but economical it aint. However, I have two very good recomendations that are.
My top pick is the Cold Steel Magnum Kukri Machete. It is long and light enough for grass work but is tough enough to bite deep into hardwoords without noodling. Usually less than 30$ delivered. BTW, I personally own this one.
Recomendation number two is the Ka-Bar Cutlass Machete. My hiking buddy owns this one and I've seen it in action. Not as good at grass work but it is a great chopper. This should run about $50.
Your needs require a knife/machete to be both light, long and strong. Heavier knives for chopping/batoning tend to wear you out during brush/grass work. Knives that are very light for grass/brush work usually noodle under the heavy chopping chores except for my recomendation. I have used it extensively on OAK and Pine. BTW, I resharpened it on my worksharp shaprener to give it a robust convex edge.
