Looking for an EDC/survival bag. Need some opinions.

As others have noted.. Stay away from all of the tacticool shit if you want to be covert.. I have been packing my edc bag around in an Osprey stratos 36. I also know I can backpack out of it for multiple nights. If you get a hiking pack, not only will it be more covert, but generally I find that backpacking/hiking packs are much more comfortable, and lighter.

I totally agree with the Osprey pack suggestion. I have a 24L Stratos that I've used for a couple years for everyday needs. Some days though, I feel even that is a little oversized when I'm just going to the mall or a day out with my daughter.

I recently got a Mystery Ranch ASAP (18 L) which I think is a better fit for urban EDC. Even with the molle webbing, it still looks (to me) a little more casual than the highly technical stratos. I can still fit everything I need inside it, but with the benefit of being able to compartmentalize with pouches attached to molle webbing inside the pack. It's also nice that the pouches can be transferred to the exterior of the pack pretty easily to make more room inside if needed, although that makes it more tactical looking.

The only 2 shortcomings of the pack are that the back part isn't vented nearly as well as an osprey, and there's no compression strap at this size of the Mystery Ranch pack. I added a compression strap myself and fixed that issue.
