Looking for an EDC with more exotic materials?

So I noticed most of my knives are satin finished s30v blades with g10 handles. Get the job done, get the job done well, but are starting to get a bit boring, for lack of a better word. I really like my spyderco Techno. CTS XHP, titanium framelock, and I really like the blue g10 backspacer. The smoothest action of all my knives.

I'm looking for something on that level of quality but in a more robust size. Around 3.5 inch blade, s35vn or better, titanium or carbon fiber handles/scales, blade shape can be anything besides clip point, lock-in mechanism can be anything but backlock unless it's a mid-backlock, one handed opening, either flipper or manual, blade thickness..well indont want it to be as thin as my spyderco delica, but doesn't have to be as thick as my techno.

Budget: $275

I ended up selling my spyderco southward which almost fits the bill excluding the ugly brown g10. But I'm looking to venture away from spyderco finally. I'm thinking zero tolerance would probably be the easiest to find something including my given criteria, but I'm open to anything really. It's times like this that I wish crkt had better QC and a lower price point..anyways, I'd appreciate any recommendations.

This would just be another EDC knife for me, the majority of my cutting tasks include cutting cord and rope, cutting down cardboard to recycle, as well as various tasks, if I'm in a situation where something would be easier done with a knife, I want to rely on something.

Also, not a requirement, but if you can think of something that isn't "plain" that would be nice. I'd enjoy carrying something unique. Now this is personal preference, I'm not associating simplicity with low quality or low performance! But knives such as: boker epicenter, crkt amicus, Ontario rat 1, benchmade griptilian, they're all great knives, but they're just very utilitarian and I want to have something fun!

Feel free to ask questions, and i appreciate all recommendations

lol I've been thinking about it. Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't the sebenza be more of a gentlemans folder? Can it handle heavier duty tasks too? I just don't see pictures of a sebenza all dirtied up ever. Or do people just save the dirty jobs for their less expensive knives? Either way, great recommendation!

How about one of these.
Spyderco Slysz Bowie or

I know, another Spyderco:D

If you look in the edc thread, you will see many well used sebs.

I find its about a 70/30 split, 70% pristine safe queens-light users, 30% used to well used. Depends on the person's priorities.

Its not something I would beat on, but normal use is fine. I'm hoping to get one myself in a year or so.

Let's just say mine has done things that broke a endura and it's an amazing knife... that said even it's plain and boring after owning it a while. It's part of the sickness, obtain perfect knife then lust after another till you get it LOL

Reate knives. or BM Griptilian with M4 steel, or 20CV, whatever you want if you do the custom configuration.

tell me about the 940. Everyone seems to love it. I've never held on or seen one in person so I can't say much, but it looks like such a slim profile blade, I get the impression if couldnt handle heavier duty tasks like the above slysz Bowie could. What's your input on the bm 940? I'm not partial to aluminum so I'd probably get the carbon fiber version like the one in your picture

Cutting 8 gauge wire is hard use? I thought that was pretty normal:confused::D

The hardest/dumbest things I've done are:

Scrape spray foam out of a masonry gap

Which resulted with:

Stab into steel studs with this 4V Mule Team (why not?!? It makes a good coat hanger:D)

Cut about 200' of old silt fence with a fresh-out-the-box Seb' 21

And a whole bunch of other stuff I probably shouldn't have done:rolleyes: Sure, a knife isn't the right tool for any of this, but a driving a Ferrari 15mph in traffic is no fun either...open that throttle up a bit:D

He posts plenty of photos showing a roughed up sebenza.

I don't post many of mine, but it is used just as any other knife I have. Blade is chipped from contact with some unforseen foreign material, scratched up and appreciated.

I know I'm always pushing the Slysz Bowie, but it really seems to fit the bill if you are looking for a bigger, but slimmer version of your techno. Its certainly up to all the tasks you describe, plus the rounded Ti handles will feel more exotic, and right in line with your budget. Actually, the Riverzon has them stupid cheap today for some reason.

The 940-1 is a great knife, but no where near the utility and slicing ability that the Bowie provides IMO. FWIW I carry the 484-1 over the 940-1, which is a more robust feeling knife. I love the 484 and have been carrying my KC exclusive 484-1601 with wood handles... it is still available within your budget, and not something everyone will have.

If you're looking for something special and want to go over budget, CRK is certainly worth checking out. If you want something unique, pick a knife and check out some custom scale makers work. Cuscadi scales for my Griptillian totally changed how I feel about that knife.

As far as ZT goes, the 0562cf might be exactly what you are looking for.

EDIT: Just realized that I already recommended you the 0562CF to go with your Boomsauce. I'll throw in a picture of my favorite knife of all time along with another beer to see if it strikes a cord. Cheers :)
