Looking For an Everyday Pocket Knife - S&W M&P vs. SOG Trident

I'd go with the SOG Trident. I have had great expierience with this blade before, and although yes, you can get some blade play after heavy use, it is easily re-tightend with a mini-torx bit.

Kershaw leek is the best. I am an commercial electrician and I beat the hell out of the knife and it just keeps going and going. it is very easy to sharpen up and it is made in the good old USA. I lost mine and went out and got another one. didn’t even bother to look at anything else. then I found the one I lost.

Spyderco Endura without question. You can't go wrong with an Endura.

I'd actually advise you to go PE rather than CE. You'll find it more useful.

If you're looking for "tacticool man-jewelry" and looks, with a budget at 140 bucks, I'd suggest the BM710. If you're really looking for a user then it's def. one of the Spydercos. Not to say the 710 isn't a user either, but Spyderco knives are really built to cut. I dislike the thick blade on ZTs for this reason...not to say they aren't fine blades though.

Welcome to the forums! I would pick up either a Ontario Rat 1 or a Spyderco tenacious. S&W is subpar and I'm just not a huge fan of SOG. sorry!

Just under $70. Seems to fit in with what you are looking for in a knife, and it is much better than your origional picks IMO. Or, if you can afford the one of the ZT's they would be great too.

Edit: Thats the kershaw ram, btw.

Had a trident, used it for cutting rope at work (with other general edc things) blade developed 1/8 vertical wobble at the tip, and to get rid of the horizontal wobble that showed up the opening was far too stiff to open one handed. The AUS8 blade steel is good enough, but really didn't hold an edge much better than the 8cr13mov steel in the tenacious that was half the price. For what they are I think the tridents are way over priced, only two pluses are the handle and pocket clip.

If you don't like the thumbhole (understandable, they take some getting used to) Take a long hard look at kershaw's offerings.
Shallot?

Good luck in your search!

I ended up buying a ZT 0350st For $110. Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I have a feeling I'll be buying some more knives eventually, so I'll definitely keep the other recommendations in mind for the next one! I really appreciate you guys pointing me in a good direction, toward a knife that is actually reliable and useful.

I really recommend the Kershaw Blur. They come in many different colors of anodized aluminum and awesome blade steels. I have a s60v olive drab one and I love it. Infact I love it so much that I'm getting the new composite blade zdp-189 one soon. However for your tacticool tastes you might wanna check out the tactical blur...

2nd The Blur! Kershaw Blur is an amazing knife, i got mine in a trade and love it! get the tactical one with the tanto blade as that is the only one i know of that has the black blade. it will cost you around 50 or so or you can as kershawguy here on the forums for a blem for an amazing price!

A G-10 Tyrade is the way to go. A cheaper route would be the Endura.

Hey guys do you think the trident opens as fast as a Benchmade barrage? I'm also considering the trident.

I tried a few at the store and all 3 tridents were new, but did not open quite as fast as other knives. Will it open faster after the knife is "broken in?"
