I currently carry a PM2 and a Griptilian in rotation. I like them both but I want more. I am looking for something a little harder use than what I have but nothing that will break the bank. I have been looking at more spyderco ( gayle Bradley 2, pm2 s110v, manix xl, military) but I have recently found the zero tolerance 562. I like the idea of the zt, because I don't have one and it is built heavier. But I am afraid I am over looking something. I like the Benchmade 810 but it's a little out of my budget. Yes I know the zt is too but I can get the 562 cheaper than retail. The most I would want to spend would be $125. I am not posting this to be lazy, I really don't know what else would be a good choice. If you know of something that fits the bill that I have not mention please let me know.

Have you looked in the exchange? You might be able to get a lightly used knife that would normally be out of your price range. On the budget end, there is the Kershaw Emerson. I have one and it is pretty stout. The Buck Marksman is a tough knife that is often overlooked. You mentioned the Spyderco Manix XL. I had a regular Manix and, although I wound up giving it to my son-in-law before I used it for much, it felt like a pretty tough knife. The Hogues are pretty stout as well. The Ontario Rat is another budget blade that is pretty robust.

If you can get a 0562 for under $130, you would be hard pressed to find a better knife in that price range.

I kinda agree with the op not to go too overboard with $$$. If you lose or break it, it won't break your heart.

As ugly as I find it, the regular PM2 is about as spendy as I would get. I did think of getting the blurple but it may only end up as a shelf queen. I have Kershaw Emersons, I think the 8Cr13MoV is ok. I love them. They are tacticool, beyond any doubt in my mind, but eh.. not nearly as practicool as my fugly FFG PM2 for what I need in a knife to supplement my SAK. Both EDC.

I've heard a lot about the RATs, I'm getting a RAT to beat up on. AUS-8? No worries.

Check out the Buck Marksman, a bit under your price range, and tank comes to mind when describing it.

A ZT 0562 for less than $130 might be a clone. Proceed with caution. Otherwise, it's a great knife.

Likewise look at a Benchmade 710 if you can find one.

The 0562 is through a web website that is or retailers. I work at a place that has a few different brands they sell so I have access to the site. The site is for employees to buy so they can tell people about the product. I have some Surefire lights from there as well. I figured the 562 at the price I get will not be beat. But I don't want to miss an opportunity on a different knife that would be just as good or better. I will check out tree buck I have never heard of that particular model.

As long as you know the dimensions of that 0562 and are cool with the size, I'd go that route for sure. I have a 0566 in my pocket right now and pretty much straight out of the mailbox I started beating on it. Granted, I'm not the first owner of this particular knife, but even still it just feels like it wants to be used harder than my other $100+ folders.

The specs on the 0562 seems to me like it would take harder use than the 0566 even better. My suggestion is to go with your instincts. Hell, you could resell the knife for what you payed for it pretty easily if it turns out not be a good fit.

The 562 is a good knife...but so are lot of the ZT models... Actually, I do NOT have the 562 as it's built for heavier duty than I need, but I do like ZT's a lot...I have several around here. The ZT is an excellent brand; very hard to beat.

wait a sec - so OP you said there is a website that sells brand new ZT 0562 for no more than $125? For employees? That is the greatest thing since sliced bread. You should go after one (maybe multiple) right away - no need to waste time here.

This breaks ZT MAP pricing rules, still not sure if this is legit.

This is a little over your top price, but it is worth saving up for. Just got the KC CPM Cru-wear Manix 2. The steel and quality of the knife is awesome!! Should be a very tough knife if it is anything like my Cruwear PM2. Feels even more solid.

It is not the company I work for. And no it's not all their knives. They are only discounted a little. They have rules about purchasing anything.

Rather than the ZT, you should look at the Cold Steel offerings, such as the Recon 1. It is a better and stronger knife, in my opinion. CS certainly has a better lock. Also, Spyderco is about to release a linerless G10 Manix 2 with a back lock. That, or the standard Manix 2, would be worth checking out.

I've had a couple of 562s and they are great for a heavier carry and heavier use folder. I prefer the G10 / Elmax version personally. A 566 is also a pretty tough folder. I carry my BW 566 almost as much as I carry my PM 2 these days.

If you really want dirt cheap & tough, look at Buck's 110 & 112. I've seen Hunters and Rangers that have been beat on for 15+ years and are still going. The Kershaw / Emersons have been mentioned already but I'll vote for 'em. I had a 6K and a 7K and both of them were pretty stout, as well as being really excellent lower end folders.

But for $125 I'd go for the 562, myself.
