if its going to be a display/safe queen why bother having it be of high quality just buy what your looking for from someone like budk. and maybe one day you will learn to buy something good with the money your throwign around

agoutihead,

You may not like the way people here are telling you stuff but they are 100% right.

You have come here and asked questions that make it obvious to most here that you know little or nothing about knives or their use as Tools or Weapons.

I am not attacking you at all. I am telling you that you have shown your lack of Knowledge and folks here have treated you the way they perceive you.

Most Experienced Knife Enthusiasts here do not Consider Tanto Blades good for much at all except stabbing into things. ( I don't even think that they are good for that either) Most Experienced Knife Enthusiasts here know that a Knuckle Bow on a knife actually makes the knife Less useful because it limits the Way the knife can be held and used. Adding the fact that they are totally Illegal in most of the country just complicates things further.

You might want to do a little learning before you run out and purchase anything.

You also mentioned that $400.00 was a lot to pay for a Custom Knife.

Most of us here would not agree with that so you might want to do a little research on what Good Custom Knives actually Cost.

I mean none of this in a disrespectful way and I hope you don't take offense.

I'm just trying to tell you how You look to moat here.

It might help you understand why you have been criticized.

Jim

no offense to those who helped. but to those who havent, i didnt come on here asking for your personal opinons on the style of knives you like.

i honestly dont care what everyone likes.

i only care about what i like.

and i like the straight tanto with serrated base to cut rope and various things.

all i want to know is if the following blade is heat treated and who i can send the blade to, to have it modified with a knuckle guard handle. and if this particular blade isnt heat treated, hopefully the same guy that can modify the handle could just then make me a heat treated tanto blade.

i dont care about name brands like jay fisher, he may be very good at what he does, and his tools may increase in value, but im not looking for an armani knife with a resale value.

im looking for a knife that i want made with good quality. there have got to be others out there who can do what im asking for cheaper than 400.

once again, i do not want a name brand smith, just a good quality one.

thanks guys.

For what you seem to want a knife for, maybe you should consider one of these in stead:

that pic didnt show up.

just for the record, a knife that is not heat treated is not an option. it must be.

i want a real knife. i want it my way. why do you people care so much what i like and why i like it? just help me obtain it.

I already answered that it IS heat treated. If it wasn't heat treated, it was probably crappy steel and not worth HT'ing anyway.

Name brand smith? That's a new one to me. If you want good work, you're going to pay for good work. $400 is exceedingly cheap for a knife that is made to the standard that Mr. Fisher makes his. You seem to think that people are going to jump at the chance to make you a high quality custom with a funky handle for under $200, or that you're entitled to it.

Armani knife..:jerkit:

Try budk.com , there's a bunch of knives with knuckle guards there. You might find something to get you started. When you click info it will tell you if it is illegal in your state because they wont ship it there.

awesome thanks peter, sorry i didnt see where you already posted that. how are you able to tell its heat treated?

now were getting somewhere!

since that blade is exactly what im looking for and its heat treated, its a very good price of 70 bucks. im going to buy that and have it modified with my special handle.

this should reduce the cost dramatically.

anyone know of places that do handle modifications like that?

The pic was an H&K Mk 23 SOCOM pistol... You seem to want this big offensive Rambo knife, just get a handgun, a CCW permit, and a normal folding knife for cutting chores.

Maybe if you give us a real reason for needing a knife like the one you describe, you'd get a little less flack for it (OR, suggestions of much better knives for what you plan to do with it). It sounds like you want a offensive weapon, but then you say the knife will not normally even leave your home, so what exactly are you wanting to do with a stay-at-home knife that you need a tanto blade and a big handguard?

All of the knives that I know of are heat treated. All of the better brands are generally heat treated well. What you should be concerned about is whether or not not the HT on your knife is done well, or is unchecked and totally screwed up because no one bothered to see how it came out of the batch HT process.

i guess there is no way to know what brand that ka-bar tanto is unless i call the company that is selling it huh?

so overall, even though its not a jay fisher, does this knife seem like its well made? a 70 dollar price tag for a commercially made knife like this one seems to be on the mid-higher range from what ive seen. i just want to make sure im not buying junk.

how common and easy is it for a smith to change out a handle on this type of knife you think?

im gonna catch a bunch of slack... but ka-bar is the company that actually makes that knife? i wasnt aware that ka-bar was the company. i thought it was just the style of knife.

so ka-bar knives are good quality arent they?

are the handles easily removed for modification?

I'd still love to hear why you need brass knuckles on a knife...

just help me obtain it.

First of all, please, no commands. Bladeforums is helping you out of their choice, you are not paying them.
Second of all, as other people have said before, you have not told us what you want it for yet. That would help greatly.

well im not demanding anything first off.

and i just want this knife because its my favorite looking knife all around.

ive had a ka-bar when i was younger and really loved it (i honestly dont even remember what happened to it and it kills me to figure it out)

the tanto look, to me gives it a very robotic and clean look, thats why im specific of getting that exact blade because i want the top to be flat. makes it more symetrical. im a weirdo when it comes to things looking/being symtrical.

the knuckles look really cool if you ask me, if you dont think it does thats your opinon.

and lets face it, if and when WW3 happens, it will be very functional in a time of need. all looking cool in the process. haha

is that good enough for you guys?

im not into tons of different kinds of knives. alot of stuff looks cool, but i wouldnt waste my money on it.

i want select few, functional, yet artistist looking pieces. im getting one knife, one rifle and one hand gun.

thats all i really see the need for. get what you want in a certain thing, and pimp it out.
