Hey guys looking for Bowie advice. I would like to stay under 200ish, so customs are out. I was looking at some SOGs at a local shop, but I don't know much about SOG or Aus8. Let me know what brand/modele you would recommend and why. FYI - it can be a modern style or traditional. Thanks.

Hi there. Case, Cold Steel, and Kabar make great knives. They have some Bowie knives in their selection. I know Case still makes the V-44.

For 209 shipped you can get a Blackjack halo attack model. http://www.knivesshipfree.com/index.php?cPath=585_653

If those 9 bucks are over your budget, for 181.97, you can get a Blackjack Model 17. http://www.knivesshipfree.com/index.php?cPath=585_600

If that's still way over budget, for 154.98 you can get a Blackjack Model 5. http://www.knivesshipfree.com/index.php?cPath=585_601

ALL Blackjack knives except the necker [EDIT: The necker is also convex; my mistake] are convex ground, which should make for easy maintenance. For your price range, I don't think you can find better quality.

For all that I've handled, you're basically getting Randall quality at a fraction of the price and without the 5 year wait time. I particularly like the HALO attack model. I might have to get one some day.

Also, for hard use AUS-8 is nothing compared to A2.

I have a very mod'ed C/S Laredo that is just what I think a bowie should be.

But its a very personal thing and I wont presume to tell you what you want or how to use it.

I do have a 'few' blades that fit that design, and its my favorite one too.

E few B.J.'s and a few Barkies too.

Oh and Becker,Reeves,Seigle,Blind Horse.

Depends on what you plan on using it for, for self defense, wood work, collecting?
I have a Cold Steel Recon Scout, use it all the time for splitting logs and general Bushcraft, very comfortable to hold, great all around large fixed blade, would highly recommend.

What are you looking do do with the bowie? If you are looking for something to use and abuse then I would suggest the becker bk9 or the smaller bk7.

I like bark river a lot, but I would also go with a BK9. I'm lusting after one myself although I have a bravo 1 that hardly gets used.

A great value from a BF sponsor:

Ontario SP-10 <$60 shipped. Chestnut Ridge.

I like that. I've been looking at bowie knives lately, but I wanted something more...cowboy style. That blade reminds me of the ol' cowboy ones. Now, if the handle was just in stag or something.

Pick up the SOG Tech Bowie, it's freaking awesome! I own the Black TiNi coated model. Not only is it gorgeous but it's super sharp, has great ergonomics, and SOG has a great heat treat on their blades. So their AUS 8 steel has good strength and edge retention. You can find them for about 115 on amazon and ebay. If you want something bigger, pick up the SOG Creed.
I love all SOG knives!I have never been let down by any of their knives.

I can reccomend the Becker BK9 or the Ontario SP10 Marine Raider Bowie pictured above. I own both & have batoned hard on them both. Excellent knives & cant go wrong with either.

Hey great suggestions. As far as the intended use - this would be on of those (I don't have that yet) kinda things. Lol. So basically just general hunting/outdoor use.

From my web research lastnight it looks like SOG doesn't have great reputation for there folders, but there fixed blades seem well liked. As far as Aus8, it looks like a ok steel.

That's too funny, I was just on YouTube looking at coldsteels vids. Not that the knife is bad or anything, but those vids are so funny. LMFAO. I'm sure they make great knives but the vids are the funniest thing on YouTube. Lol

Some of the funniest things are the viewer comments. At one point in the vid the big guy talks about the laminated steel being like a sandwich (true but funny) - user comment: "only a guy of that size would compare a knife to a sandwich". Lol.

Scrapyard Regulator bowie. You can't break it and if you could its got a lifetime warranty. You can find one on the x starting at $100.
