Looking for cable source...

Hi guys. I've run out of the big hunk of cable a friend gave me years ago, and I no longer have access to a junkyard. I need to find some probably online sources for cable suitable for cable damascus. Any suggestions?

Go to your local crane service. I was in the crane business for 30 years and accumulated miles of the stuff. The scrap yards won't take it unless it's cut up into 1' lengths because their shears won't cut it and it wasn't worth the man hours to cut it up. I've given away reels with 1000' of 1".

Now, how long would that last?
 
Thanks for the suggestion. I didn't really have high hopes for finding a crane service out here as I live in the middle of the Catskills, but just did a search and there's one in a town I pass though on the way to work. I had been going to buy some from an online cable supplier, but for about four feet of it the shipping was going to be like 18.00, plus the price of the cable. Ill check with the local guys tomorrow. Thanks again.
 
I made a cable letter opener for the last manager at crane service near me, he told me I could have anything in the scrap trailer, EVER.
