Can anyone help me find a supplier of carbon fiber material for knife handles? Are there any special tools needed or precautions for working with this material?
les at halpern titanium has it....email me and i will send you his link....i looked it up..... http://www.halperntitanium.com pretty simple right......
Yes, there are major precautions needed when working with carbon fiber. CF when it is broken or ground or whatever forms into tiny little spikes. These little buggers get into the air and if you breathe them in, they are there for good. Same idea as asbestos. You need to have REALLY good air collection vacuums around whatever you are using to grind and machine it, as well as an industrial grade respirator and goggles (not glasses...I would reommend full goggles).
As far as handle materials go, I can't think of anything worse for your health. I have a little bit of CF if you want to experiment. Probably enough to do a couple small scales. I can take a measurement if you need, and I'll sell it for cheap.
Thanks for the reply Tom and Chiro75. While the carbon fiber handles I've seen look nice, I think I may wait until I'm more experienced before messing with something that potentially unpleasant.
