Looking for Chris Reeve's comments on "Idaho made" stamp (not a debate about it)

I've heard people mention that after reading Chris Reeve's official comments on the "Idaho made" stamp they were more accepting of it. I've done quite a bit of searching on Google and this forum with no success finding his official comments. Could someone post them here? I'm not trying to start a debate on whether or not the stamp is good or bad.

While I don't particularly care for extra script on my knives, this isn't a deal breaker for me. Personally, I won't pay more for a "non-Idaho" version with everything else considered.

I do know that Chris and Anne take great pride in things "American Made", and this is an extension of that sentiment. That, and the ever-going battle against counterfeits, I think play a large part this recent lettering.

I'm not sure that is stopping counterfeits, I've seen several fakes with the "Idaho made" stamp as well. Personally I would prefer "USA Made" to "Idaho made" since there are a lot more people who can relate to pride in the USA rather than pride in Idaho specifically. But I'm not really trying to start a discussion about that, I'm really just looking for Chris' comments. I know he made some early on about why he did it, but now completely avoids the conversation and just says something along the lines of "It's my decision, it's not going away, get used to it"

I own both kinds and could care less, to be honest. They are both great knives, I never notice the stamp or lack thereof. But I know it is a big deal for others and I respect that.

It never bothered me in the least while others cried about it and still are. I am proud that its made in the USA, and Chris must be pretty proud of Idaho, or he would have USA Made on it instead.

The whole reason for it is to combat counterfeiting. I spoke to him about it when it first came out. I am not going to say what he told me as to not help those bastard counterfeiters out there, so dont ask, not even via pm.....lol. He has made comments on it here on the forum, its just digging and finding it that will take time.

I just watched a brand new youtube video by Soloknifereviews on Umnamzaan counterfeits and they are so close in appearance it is scary. I had trouble telling them apart. And the Chinese put the Idaho Made on theirs. Really irritating. The video is worth watching if you are into CR Knives.

Search by user. Mr. Reeve doesn't post that often.

I'm actually surprised that it's as far off as it is. I've followed the replica watch market very closely, and some of the replicas can not be distinguished at all from the real deals. Videos like this are exactly what helps the fakers get better though. I understand that these videos help people to not accidentally buy a fake, but you will see newer generations of the fakes come out until they are perfect and mostly indistinguishable because of comparisons like these.

Yes, and with all respect* for Mr. Reeve, I really can't imagine someone can't fake the "Idaho Made" logo just as easily as any other part of the knife. Nevertheless, it is what it is, and things change regularly...we always seem to want what we can't have. ;) :)

* as opposed to "with all due respect," which seems to have come to mean that the speaker has no respect at all for the person s/he's referring to... :(

This is actually total nonsense and something I hear said all the time. The people making those fake knives know exactly what is wrong with their product. They are not making those fakes from photographs and hand drawn pictures. They are in possession of genuine CRKs and can see for them selves what is spot on or not. Getting the customers out there educated on what is happening is far more important than worrying if you are helping the bad guys, and you're not unless you actually buy their knives.

As for the "I.M." mark I don't recall hearing much out side of "it's there and it's not going away, deal with it". I'm not sure what the real reason was and there have been a few thrown about, some more probable that others. Stopping coppied knives doesn't seem like the best explanation to me but that seems to be the one folks are sticking with.

I guess it's true that they may know some of the flaws of their designs. You definitely see this pattern of them coming out with something very close, then a newer version a little better, then again, until they end up pretty much perfect.

It's possible that the Idaho Made was not so much to stop counterfeiters from copying the knife, but to stop batches of them from getting through customs in other countries.

Haze is right "it's there and it's not going away, deal with it"

I still think it's there to satisfy some sort of State subsidy or tax break or something similar.

I considered that option and did a good amount of digging through Idaho tax breaks and such, didn't find anything.

I think Idaho is one of the most beautiful states in the union I would relocate there if I had enough money (wages there probably not as high)
the stamp does not bother me at all

Wages are probably no where near what they are in NY but I'm sure the cost of living is much lower as well.

I actually prefer it... For me it adds a bit more identity to it. I'm proud to be from my state and I like that Mr. Reeve has a pride in Idaho for his. Regardless, I don't own the knives for the stamp and wouldn't base my further buying decisions on whether or not it has them.
