Those could be a decent alternative to the blackjack grunt, with the S&W Combat Survival being maybe a bit closer to what you're looking for, it's 7 in. long stainless steel, full tang construction while remaining lighter to carry, compared to a Ka-bar, and at $55, it's closer to your initial cost requirement, I think this one could be a good winner for your request :)

I second the Cold Steel SRK. I carried this on my LBE for years, I've also used it in a outdoor capacity for skinning, butchering, and survival applications. This knife is plenty strong enough to penetrate and pry wood, light metal, bust up brick and cinderblock and it will still clean up and have and edge functional enough for carving, cutting up vegetation, meat etc. Not to mention it has a nice balance and a "live" feel for fighting applications.

Thanks to everyone for the info- I picked up the glock feild knife, I was sold on this one because it was rather cheap, durable, and can be used as a thrower. I have been throwing for a few years now using some S&W bullseyes, a black tang ranger knife(super cheap, but durable) and some cheap pakistan knock offs. This will go great in my collection.

Thanks again! this forum rocks!
