Looking for containers

Howdy ya'll:D
I am looking for several round containers (a little smaller than say a chap stick tube) and water tight/resistant. I would like to find them around the size that would take 10-15 matches inside. I got the idea for them looking at a store bought survival kit. The one I was looking at had the little container and it was full of safety pins and fish hooks.
Locally would be ideal, but will order.
I have checked three outdoor enthusiasts stores, Michaels crafts, and sorta gave up as my 13 year old started getting a touch bored:grumpy:
Any ideas???

Try modding a expended shotgun shell , I don't think a .410 would hold 10 matches but a 20ga might with a 16 or 12 ga as a cover.

Unless you have a particular need for a long round tube because of where you are going to stow it consider old flash memory card cases. They're rectangular and flat and thin so they make the optimal use of space for matches unlike a tube. They're better for keeping stuff like hooks in too 'cos they open out like a tray for selection rather than having to tip a bunch of them from an end and picking one.

Just a thought - works for me.

That's a good idea. What cases will fit matches? I have a ton lying around, but most are SD and MS Pro, which are way too small.

Go to a cigar store they sell plastic and metal tubes that the cigar comes in. You can cut them down easily to any size if you want.

fischer scientific! You can get them in glass, plastic, amber...etc!

There's the tube size plastic "travel" tylenol that I've seen that is a little bigger than a chapstick but I assume it's watertight.

I'm also remembering some glass vials from my chem lab days that had plastic stoppers that were about that size, but glass obviously wouldn't be a great choice for something bouncing around a kit.

what about the tubes that mechanical pencil lead comes in? I havent used one in years, but it seems like they might be the right size. probably not fully waterproof but you might be able to mod them a little bit.

thats all I've got for now, I'll keep thinking about it.

this was posted while I was writing mine, but if these vials are also avaliable in plastic, they're definitely the way to go. Might have to order a case of them, but I'm sure you could find some guys around here who might be interested. :D

I cut the "nostril" tube off a Vicks inhaler.

Gives me a screw top small container

BTW, the scale of the ruler is in cm's

Kind regards

Shadow101 - You could try the chemist ... I've got several different sized containers from them. Usually about 30 to 50c each.

What a coincidence!

I just (14th Dec) received in the mail, my order of 25ml & 5ml plastic vials with lids for similar purposes as your own.

This seller has them in packs of 5, of each size.

I'm really pleased with the quality and price, and the seller is excellent.

Pvc pipe and cap or plug it. I used to get some plastic tubes with lids from the kids candy section. I used it for premesured black powder. How about a little rectangle breath mind container? What about cutting some aquarium tubing?

The size you are asking for sounds just like the container Dramamine comes in... it is air tight and child proof!

Should do the trick :D

I've packaged matches in a seal-a-meal bag with tinder. Nalgene makes small watertight containers. I found a bunch at a Storables store. REI has some too.

The ultimate is a K&M match case with a compass in the top.

I second the Coghlans orange match containers. No complaints for the dollar or whatever they cost.
