Ah! I have spoken with OP. He is looking for a scrimshaw artist, not an engraver. The scene would go on the bone. That's not my specialty, unfortunately! Best of luck searching for your artist.

I've never done (or seen) scrimshaw on stag. I'm thinking it may be more porous than ivory or bone.

I just googled it, and did see some examples on what looks like highly polished stag, so I suppose it's possible. Not something I'm prepared to attempt any time soon.
