I'm looking for my first Spyderco. I don't have a store near by to handle them. I would like it to have the characteristics similar to the Kershaw Junk Yard Dog.

http://www.thebladeshop.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=4449

Blade - cutting edge lenght 3" - 50% serrated or less
Handle - 4" - narrow

I looked at the Native but two things that didn't fit my criteria.
The cutting edge is 2.5"
The serrations are more than half the blade.

What would you recommend.

Thanks

Check out the Caly 3. It is about the same size, three inch blade, G-10 scales. If you are looking for combo edge, then check out the Delica 4. It comes in stainless steel handles, like the JYD I, and comes in combo edge, serrated or plain edge. It also the same size as the JYD I.

Thanks Joe,
I'll look at them.
Your post make me look at the cutting edge of the Junk Yard Dog - it has a cutting edge of 2 5/8 - similar to the ones you posted.

Thanks again.

For a larger and more robust Spyderco, you might check out the Paramilitary. It has a 3.5" blade, but the cutting edge will be slightly shorter than that. It's a pretty solid knife, but very light due to the open construction and nested liners.

I have to second the Caly 3. It's my EDC and I've found it to be equal to any warehouse or house & yard task I've put it to.

there really isnt any spyderco that is similar to the junkyard dog to be honest. only similar in size.

id say just try the delica 4. i prefer mine fully serrated.
