I'm looking at buying a knife for one of my daughters, something light and easy to use and something that she can use for pretty much everything. Normally I would have hubby deal with this but he is a bit lost in getting his first "man child" and has decided it's time for me to let the girls be girls! :barf: She's still really young so I don't want to get her some kind of sword but she really likes her daddies knives and it will soon be time to get her one of her own, so any suggestions are appriciated!:p

What is she going to use it for? "Everything" is really broad... I'd imagine a Bear Cub Hack is a good starter knife for a child with small hands.
A comparison shot of the Bear Cub Hack with a Game Warden...

My daughter is starting a program called blue denim and lace in a few months when she hits her birthday so she needs something that she can use for light camping, crafting, and some fishing... Her dad and I are taking up archery so it would be good for her to be able to use it to take care of her bow and such as well. I currently carry a SAR 3 and hubby bought 4 of them when the store put them up but it's still a bit big for her hands otherwise I would have just wrapped one up! The hack looks perfect, anyone know where I can find one? New or used doesn't really matter though I would like to give her one that's new if I can!! And, as horrible as this might sound I don't want to spend alot on it since she is likely going to thrash it but I do want her to get something that is good quality and going to last through her... Maybe even her sister??!!

One woman to another, she won't trash infi! ;) I beat the tar out of mine (or did, till this silly back thing) and I can't make a significant mark! :D

Try the HACK if you like, but if this is for long term, maybe a Game Warden would work for her. The knife would likely outlast us all, and definitely is versatile!

Right on, Mom!

The Hack, SAR 3, AD, GW, Hairy Cairy, even a Boss Street would make fine choices.

Don't tell the old man, who wont read this post because he is afraid you might find out that he's married to me, I ran my sar over the other day with a full size truck... It fell out of my purse, can't tell, but I was on rocks not even a ding!! That's why Im looking at getting her a busse, if it won't break after running it over with my dodge then it probably wont break! Ill look into a Game Warden too, isn't a boss street pretty big? She's turning five so much bigger than a SAR is a sword! I figure she'll get a couple more as she gets older, if she gets into it!

The mini MUCK will hopefully be out soon:eek:

The MUCK post has been out for a while... Anyone have any idea if it's comming before Christmas perhaps... Would be cool to put that one under the tree this year! Lol, had a funny thought of my pre schooler carefully printing out...

Dear Santa Jerry,
Ive been a very good girl this year can I have a princess color book, a new dress and a Mini Muck?

Thank you, J

The only way to find a HACK is to haunt the Exchange, or post a WTB in the WTB forum.

Well, you could show up on David Brown's door step with a winning smile and some good stuff to trade. :p

I should sick the kid on him, never seen such an operator in my life she even sings and tells people how much her mommy and daddy love her... Then she never stops talking till your willing to give up ANYTHING as long as she is quiet for a moment!

Thank you so much! I sent him a message, hopefully it'll work out, though after looking at the muk Im hoping for those to drop too!

snwbrdr202 has got one for ya...
It's the last pic...

Those are nice, and would work, but they are different/larger than the Bear Cub Hacks.

I'd vote Culti, it's my favorite EDC.

I was thinking yeah it's a sword for a 5 year old, but, proportionally it would be the same as me carrying a SJ, which I do. It's longer than the SAR-3 but the handle is pretty small in diameter.

Good woodcraft knife, I've cleaned fish with it, great kitchen knife.

Worth a look.

$0.02 ;)

How about a swamp warden. It's light, fairly inexpensive and has lots of cool factor. I have seen them on the exchange lately. If you want, you can wrap the handle with paracord of her color choice.

I'd have to agree. The Culti (Cultellus) has a nice thin handle, and is suitable for just about any hand size.

Top knife in this pic (This version has tan canvas micarta on a satin blade and is my kitchen Culti):
