Looking for first time Busse

+1, Swamp Warden is on the smallish size, and it is inexpensive. Would be my choice to give to a child (drop Eric an email and you might still be able to submit an order for one). Or a Hack of some sort would be second, but would be quite a bit more expensive. And as Jaxx has said a Culti is a smaller Busse as well, if you can find one cheap enough.

How about a swamp warden. It's light, fairly inexpensive and has lots of cool factor. I have seen them on the exchange lately. If you want, you can wrap the handle with paracord of her color choice.

did someone say Hack ?

I got an email today that brought up why in the world I would buy my little girl a knife and I wasn't going to bring it up in the forum since I didn't want to end up in a fight but then as I was headed home from the dentist something came on the radio... today in southern ca three different girls were grabbed between the ages of 10 to 14 years old, only the 10 year old escaped her attacker the other two are still missing... that little girl used the pocket knife her dad gave her a couple of years ago, it wasn't very big she didn't take the guy out or down him... Just enough damage for him to let go and her to run... In the real world cops and parents can't be everywhere at once, as bad as it bothers me I cannot always protect my babies but I can help them to protect themselves... So for the person who asked why, so that maybe if someone tries to grab my little girl she might get away anything I can do to help her odds seems like I would try, wouldn't you?

Turn her into a BAD girl!

Boney Active Duty -- small enough for carry, small hands, etc and big enough to do just about anything but cut firewood.

I'll second (or third) the Culti! It has a thin handle, it's light weight, but has enough blade for cleaning fish, carving camp craft items, and general kitchen duties. I use it for food prep in the office almost daily. It's a great little knife she can continue to use as she grows.
