Have you ever been in the middle of a project and ruined a perfectly good set of scales. Well I just did. The Harlequin fighter is to the stage where I just need to put the handle scales on and wouldn't you know it I ruined them. Now I need either another set of 4 1/2 X 1 1/2 X 1/4 brown bark like giraffe bone scales or a set of inside ivory scales the same demensions. I would prefer strongly to get them from Canada that way I do not have to wait for them to clear customs, just pay the extra and have them here in a couple of days. Anyone with suggestions or a set you could part with please let me know.
Thanks
Steve

Hey Steve,

Have you had any luck yet? I don't know about Canadian sources, but have you checked out these folks for giraffe bone, http://www.giraffebone.co.za?

I've got a pair of mammoth scales that might do, if you're interested. They 1/4" to are 4 1/2" x 1 1/2". The thickness varies though. One scale is a sway back. The other humps out. They're 1/4" to 3/8" at the ends. and as little as 1/8" at some places on the side edges.

Good luck, Phil

Thanks Phil
I think that sway back would cause me some grief but thanks for the offer. Have you ever dealt with Mark Knapp. I am going to try and contact him and see what he has. My only concern with dealing with giraffebone.ca is the time it will take to get here. I have the Canadian Guild show in 4 weeks and would like to have this knife completed on the table for the show.
Thanks
Steve

Steve --

Mark Knapp is tops! He also might have something besides mammoth that might work, like Stellar's Seacow or something.

I have a set of SS that might be able to work for you, although they thin out a bit at the edges, but not as the mammoth I showed you. They're almost 4 3/4" x 1 5/8" by a little under and over 1/4" thick at the edges.

Have you tried this place, http://www.canadianivory.com/? Here's another, http://www.boonetrading.com/index.html. It's in Oregon though.

If you're really ambitious (or desperate ) I have a good sized chunk of camel bone some scales might be able to be cut out of. :D

Good luck and keep us posted!

-- Phil

Have you used Canadian Ivory? I saw them but wasn't sure how ligitimate they were. Shoot me a PM on the SS. It lookslike exactly what I have been looking for if we can get it here in time.
Thanks
Steve

Steve -- I just came up for air for a few moments and see you have made a good connection with Roger for a set of scales sized such that you will have more margin to work with than the ones I have. Sounds good guys! If you need mine as a fall back position, just let me know. -- Aloha, Phil
