Looking for good boots

I wore out my Danners after 15 years, my backpacking Asolo's after 9 years. Interested in something light weight, about 8" high, good for a 35 lb. pack, hiking, etc. I have cold weather boots, looking for non insulated with this pair. Any reccomendations?

I like Meindl boots and the Vasque MX2. Never had a pair of boots last as long as yours. My Danner Foresters only lasted a couple years.

Altama jungle boots or just all leather ( non insulted) are a bit higher then 8", but ive worn my pair of all leather altamas with the ripple sole every day for 2 years and they still look like new after I polish them.

I still have a pair of Zamberlan hikers from MEC. Used hard for 5 years. I've worn the Vibram soles flat, but they are still good for kicking around. Can't beat that Italian craftsmanship.

If Asolos fit you, Scarpa probably will, too. Great boot. Or you could go with a Norwegian welt boot so the sole is replaceable. Merrell still makes one, I think. Or Alico of Italy. Limmers are also awefully nice.

I own danners like you above mentioned and I keep buyin em, I love how light and supportive danners are. I have not had much experience with the other boots mentioned by others but I am sure there nice too, just given my low down on my fav boots.

I've had my Zamberlan Civetta GTX for 6 yrs and I love them. The best boot for each person is a well made one that fits your feet the best and has the features that you want. You have to try on different ones.

Thanks for the input. I think I'll try the new Danner Pronghorn boots, very light weight.

Thanks for all the help.

go to a surplus store and look for the Magnum storm the boot is lighter then my low cut day hikers and give great suport

Limmers, Limmers, Limmers.

Did I mention Limmers.

Near a decade old of hard use.;)

Danner makes some of the best boots around I love my acadias, but they are not anywhere near light. I just bought a pair of oakleys, and they're great for light hiking/trekking and nice and light. Like wearing a pair of tennis shoes, but with a little more support and traction.

Sure, but first you have to wait four years in line to get them.

Unless, of course, you're talking about off-the-shelf Limmers, which are really Meindl, as far as I know.

Many people recommend Danners, I see. Do they make any hiking boots with Vibram soles? How do they compete with specialized mountain boots, like Merrells, Meindl, Limmers, Vasque, Asolo, Scarpa, etc? Somehow, when I read reviews of latest mountain hiking boots, I never see Danners even mentioned.

+1 for Scarpa, down side is depending on where you live the selection can be limited

You can try your country's military surplus stores for boots. They are normally well built and cheap. Alternatively, you can go for brands like Magnum or Blackhawk.

They were off the shelf.

Never heard they were Meindl's .

They look nothing like Limmers to me.

I must admit I have always liked the Scarpa Manta but they cant be resoled so this is an issue for me as i wear vibram down pretty quick.
