I am looking for something along the lines of the Skookum Bush Tool or the Woodlore knife of Ray Mears fame. I found one possibility so far, that's Bark River Knife and Tool's "Aurora" knife. I have also looked at Mora knives and they are cheap enough that I will buy a few, however, the Moras' don't take me quite where I need to go. I would like to find other possibilities. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Well, I took the plunge and put an order in for the Skookum Bush Tool; I should have it when I redeploy in November/December. If you like the looks, why not take the plunge as well?

If you're looking for less expensive options, check out http://www.ragweedforge.com/

Look under Ahti, Helle, EKA, Brusletto or Roselli for some decent scandi blades, of which most have some great "bush-knife" designs.

I couldn't recommend Bark River enough, and their Aurora and Nebula look like excellent designs; and don't forget the Northstar, another outstanding bushcraft design.

No-no, if you'll match a 4 inch Mora with a 12 inch Ontario machete I think you'll be good to go for little outlay.

I am patiently waiting for my bush tool to be finished but reciently picked up a Mora 780 which is diff. heat treated. I could not be more impressed with an $11 knife!! Using this knife as it should be used and taken care of, it should last a very loooong time. I would not think twice as to carry it every where I go.

I can't wait to add to my collection with a more traditional bushknife, but I own both a Nebula and 2 Auroras. They are fine knives that anyone would be proud to use, they are tough and pretty good looking too. I flip flop as to which one is better, so I'm no help there, the Nebula is lighter, if that makes a difference to you.
EKA W11 is also a good choice, I love mine, a great feel, and 12C27, you can't go wrong. If your looking to save money, MORA or a Puuko, both fun knives that I would bet my ass on. I will say that I prefer the Mora 2K over the clipper, but this is strickly my personal preference, as many of the guys on here would see the opposite view.

It's Roselli all the way for me. His Grandfather's knife and a decent tomahawk are all I've needed for bushcraft.

I have a Northstar, an Aurora and a Nebula. I also tinker with a Lil Chute/Golok combo. Any of these knives will do the job. I lean toward the Nebula due to the stainless aspect and the fact that my Nebula has blaze orange G3 grips which are the bomb in actual field use. If you lay it down or drop it its hard to lose. Plus G3 rivals Micarta in durability.
However if I had to reach for just one to use in the wilderness I would still pick my Stewart Marsh Bushcrafter.

Love my Aurora. Tough, beautiful, sleek, smooth. Fits the hand well and has an incredible and robust blade for whatever you might need to do, rough work to light.

Bark River gets my endorsement any time!
