Yes, Rob Patton of www.pattonknives.com has been doing some fantastic claypacked Japanese style blades of late. They have classical profiles, beautiful hamon, and cut and withstand impact like demons- I have personally tested several. Rob is also a terrific guy to deal with. I can't recommend him enough.
Other well tested (but expensive) sources would be Howard Clark, Michael Bell, and Randal Graham.
Kris Cutlery will indeed sell you a Waki blade, I have one on the way as we speak. They aren't listed in the catalog but if you call and ask they will get you one. (Correction.. it just showed up. At first glance, it's looking nice!) [Edit to mention mine was $55 +Shipping and handling.. your milage may vary, etc.]
They are good, solid blades which with a bit of TLC can turn out very very nice. They are differentially tempered, and sucess has been had drawing out the "hamon" by hand sanding/etching/polishing. It is not a traditional japanese type of hamon, however.
KC is out of Katana, Naginita's and Yari blades at the moment (Or at least were when I called a couple of weeks ago.)
The reason given is that they are re-working the entire line, to make them "better". For example, I think the katana is no longer going to be flat sided, but have an interupted diamond type profile. It should make the blade lighter without losing strength... all in all a good thing.
Troy, whatever excuse Cecil is using these days doesn't change the fact that he is ALMOST ALWAYS out of most things. He sells a lot of them and production is slow. This has been going on for years. They are still top notch beaters though and I enjoy dealing with KC.
