Looking for grinder

Hello, I am interested in getting into basic knife making to see how I like it. I had decided to get a very basic grinder and saw suggestions for the 2x42 craftsman. The issue is I can only find the 1/3 hp model. I had read there was a 1hp model and assume that was the one suggested. Any advice on locating this model?

The only 2x42 Craftsman still in production is the 1/3hp model. It will do the job just fine, it's what I started with. You will want to put a ceramic platen on it. Do a google search for 2x42 mods and you will find lots of information.

Sounds good...the 1x30 is garbage. I may however just make a new platen out of 90 degree steel 1/4 or something and put a nice thick flat table on the shitty one it came with.

If you wanted to pay a little bit more you could get a Viel SM-5 1x42 and throw your own motor and vfd on it =) would be looking at about $400-$500 out the door though.
