Looking for hawkbill style blade

For SD, I understand that Smith & Wesson (don't laugh) had a well-regarded very inexpensive Hawkbill ($14? Knifeoutlet). IF its exclusively for SD, that may be the way to go.

And thanks for the heads-up on the G10 Crossbill. Did not know that.

...Not a one hand opener...

If you're talking about the Beak, I open mine with one hand using the nail nick just as I would a thumbstud. And if your thumb isn't long enough to rotate it fully open, the knife is smooth enough that you can easily flick it from a partially opened position. Give it a try.

I was pretty fascinated by hawkbills and karambits and got the byrd crossbill to check one out on the cheap. better than dropping $170 for a superhawk if I didn't like it!

For me, the byrd is a great knife (especially for the $), but I find the design a bit limiting. does not feel like a cheap knife in the least though!

Is the Crossbill's smooth metal handle detrimental to its use as an SD knife?

That is why I suggested the G-10 handled Crossbill. The G-10 is not much more and is definitely the way to go on the Crossbill.
