Looking for help on this Buck 110 knife leverlock

Well I was hoping that someone would say: "Yeah old so and so made that."
Hey, if I made up a bunch of amateur looking junk, would you guys buy it?
And Bill I read your story on your site. You talked about Jimmy Lile praising your first knife. You said "even though it was very crude." I don't know who made this knife, But calling it "Amateur looking junk." Is kinda harsh. What if Jimmy Lile told you that? Would you have still pursued your passion for switchblades? Not trying to start an argument. I checked out your site you do very nice work.

Jimmy was probably a much nicer man than I. My remark was less about the knife than about all the people who like it.
The Grindworx web site has knives that only look similar because they have blades, handles, and a lever to open the knife. Kind of like how a a four door sedan looks similar to a Corvette.

OP was asking for details on a knife that he's obviously excited about. Whether anyone else would buy one is irrelevant, it's his knife. It doesn't cost much to be supportive, If he likes it, I'm happy for him.
Thank you Midnight rider. It was $40 + premium and shipping. So in my opinion $62 and some change was a pretty good deal for a curiosity, and I'm pretty sure I might be the only one on here with one. LOL

So you're saying all the people who liked it are amateur junk? Not sure what you're saying here.

What I'm saying is the knife is rather crude. I understand that can have some appeal. If the OP likes the knife, that's great.
I'm just amazed at how MANY people like it.
Same thing with all the Pakistani knifemakers on social media. People are buying their knives like crazy. 90% of them look terrible to me.

There's no accounting for taste. Personally, I liked it because it's different (never seen one like it before), and mechanically interesting. I probably wouldn't buy one, but I can understand the appeal. I can't speak for the other 5 reactions to the first post. Pakistani knives are popular probably because they're dirt cheap, and they're everywhere. People spend money on dumber things. Just my two cents.

Not that my opinion is worth more than anyone else's, but I think it's pretty cool!

Kinda like a hobo nickel.

It's obviously not a mass produced modified 110. It's someone's personal tinkering skills at work. I'm not going to go as far as calling it art...

Someone took one of the most primitive locking folders on earth and married it to one of the oldest switch blade mechanims. That's pretty cool! Whether the fit and finish is up to your standards or not, or if you're just offended that someone made a 110 with a similar action as the beloved Hubertus lever knives, it doesn't diminish the fact that someone had the idea and did it.

If you don't like it that's fine, and you're welcome to express that. But to criticize other members for their opinion of it is childish.

Carry on...

I agree 100%. Thank you.

I have spent 50+ years trying to teach people about knives-what is good, why it's good, why it's bad, etc. There are patterns that have been around for a couple hundred years that work. Patterns that evolved to do a particular task. And, those patterns don't use ridiculous multiple bevel grinds like are found on many "high-end" modern knives.

I have been through every fad that has come along with the modern custom (and factory) knives. Am i jaded? Yep!

I was doing file work in 1975. Nothing wrong with file work, but it has been way overused and overdone. I'm an engraver-nothing wrong with engraving-until it is overdone or badly done.
Mosaic pins-old hat. Been there. I'm not a big fan of modern, CNC made knives. I have some, and they are good tools. I understand why the knife industry is making knives that way. No one wants to be a cutler (or any other type of craftsman) any more. It does sadden me. I have been looking for a protege for years. I could take some kid that has mechanical ability and a love for knives and have him making 200K plus a year after 4-5 years of training.
