Looking for help with an Etching (laser?) project

I'm hoping someone here can help me. I'm having a large knife made for me and I'd like to have the main blade etched with a reproduction of the old Shapleigh Hardware Diamond Edge etching that they used on switchblades contracted from Schrade Cut Co. I'm not sure how to go about having it done and am hoping someone here might be able to do it for me, or at least point me in the right direction! I have photos of the etch for reference.

I directed Mark here.
Is there someone who can make etching templates from supplied images?
And then, someone who can do the etching for him? I don't do etching.
Another alternative is to find someone with a fiber laser who can do the etch.
Thanks,
Bill DeShivs

Most Trophy Shops can knock that out in no time. They can download the image to the Lazer and can blow it up or shrink it to meet your request.

I own a laser, but rarely do etching, only cutting, but am on alot of laser forums, and the two methods are fiber laser and the more common CO2 laser, which doesn't by itself etch metal, but with a special marking tape or spray coating called Cermark, you apply the Cermark, then laser the logo, then wash off the remaining Cermark, leaving a permanent black, highly detailed logo. Like Busto said, look up your local engraver / trophy maker, but be sure to have your logo drawn in Corel or in a .dxf file so they can upload. If not, most shops will convert your diagram into a CAD file for the laser. If you find a shop with a fiber laser, I hear they are even better, as the fiber laser will actually etch into the metal rather than marking it.

Electro-etching will probably be closer to the original process.

Same thing all of you use to mark your blades! Who makes the stencils?
Who will etch the blade for him?

IMHO, laser doesn't look nearly as good as high-detail sandetching.
I say that because I do the sandetching and used to sell the equipment and materials for the process.
I also say it because it's true, as evidenced by some of my clients, who chose it over laser when etching high-end glass (as in "a $5,000 trophy given out on live TV" or a "specially created memorial for the victims of 9/11" high-end).

I'll give you more info about the differences to help you in your decision if you want to contact me off-board.
Just let me know in this thread and I'll give you my email address.
