I'm going to a gun and knife show on 3-29-03 and am interested in buying one or two more knives for my "working hours" EDC rotation. Here are my parameters:
1. $150.00 or under
2. 2.5"/PE blade (blade length can be a 1/4" less or more)
3. Clip
4. One-hand opener

Here's what I already have in that neighborhood: Spyderco: Rookie, Delica, Jess Horn, Centofante, Navi', Mouse, Meerkat and Herbst. I also have a Leek and a Scallion.

With all of that said, what are your suggestions? I know y'all get tired of these kinds of posts but I'm really serious about this, so any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance :) .

I'd go with the Kiwi too, but if I were you I'd wait until I got to the show.

While at the ECCKS I saw some nice gents folders by Dick Atckinson for $100. They were titanium frame locks with anodized frames, and filework on the blades. Very nice work, the only thing I think that it didint have was a clip.

It was a basic drop point blade, about 2.5" of ATS-34. The filework was maybe a bit less than an inch along the spine. Like I said before anodized to a blue/purple range titanium framelock. No clip, but a great looking knife, almost bought one myself, but I only really carry knives with a clip. I am starting to regreat that decision, I think I will have to pick one up the next chance I get. From what I heard he is a good lesser known maker.

I would check out the Xikar Excursion 158. Around a 2.5" blade, titanium handle with carbon fiber and it has a strong frame lock. Just my $0.02.

William Henry all the way. I handled some during my last balde show and the knives were as smooth or smoother than most of the customs there.

Actually, I wouldn't consider Atkinson to be a lesser known maker, just less mainstream. His work is usually very high quality, but very inexpensive. I owned one of the aforementioned framelock folders and it had alot of the things that you would look for in a gent knife, good steel (440C I believe), filework, a leather lanyard, thin, light, framelock. I eventually traded mine though because it is a very light duty folder. The titanium on this model is very thin and although mine had a great lock up, I was always a bit afraid of the lock bar flexing. Still, if light duty is the name of your game, check one out. I got mine from Bladeart.com and I think that they are still available.

I like the Amber Bone, Spearpoint, but it will be a little more expensive. take care, rob
Of course, I suggest checking out the BladeArt link, too...later.

Jazzman,
The thiner locking bar is what made my shy away from buying the knife. I had no doubt it was well made, and would lockup just fine. I just tend to use my knives harder, and as you said it is a gent's knife, not what I am really into. I am still considering buying one at some point for the rare occasions when I am not wearing jeans.

I might go for the CF Delica.
I used to have a carbon fiber dragonfly (until an airport stole it  ) and people would always go "oooooh" when I brought it out.
I am sure that none of the other knives cut any better? :D
