Looking for interior mammoth ivory

I have a customer who wants yellowish to white mammoth ivory sanded smoth and polished for scrimshaw on a mid sized knife. He is willing to have spacer material to built thickness. He sent me a fair sized piece about a 1/4" thick on the curve of exterior bark. It has a nice brown outside and some texture. I don't really want to sand this down to get him what he desires and have talked to him and I can replace it with interior ivory. I am looking for a decent price on a set about 1 1/4"x 3 1/2 - 4" . How big of a hurry are you in? I have an 8" length by about 5" diameter section of mammoth ivory tusk. It has blue and crackles on the outside layers, but the inside layers are white. I could cut it up this weekend and ship early next week. I'd leave the flattening to you.

Scott, if you need to get rid of that blue discolored, cracked, crazed and icky stuff, I'd be willing to dispose of it for you...:rolleyes:
 
LOL. Scott, I am in no hurry. I will call today. My phone time is limited as they don't like us wandering around in a place where explosive vapors are sometimes released with any unapproved electronic devices. Kinda weird that way. LOL I will call during a break. I will only agree if you can do it in a way that you want to use that piece. Its the one in your shelf of goodies huh. Jim

Thanks Scott it sound like some good scales. I will be finishing the blade and guard this week. I will post some pictures of this knife when done. It is an interesting knife limited by the laws of Massachusetts. Jim
