Im looking for a sharpening system that can manage a Karambit style blade just wondered if there are any on the market which stand out. Ive looked around on the net a bit and the Spyderco sharpmaker system seems to be a good choice but im not entirely sure it will give consistant results for this blade style.

My budget is around $150 range so I assume water stones are out of the question. What do you think ill need to get a really good finish?

You should attempt to contact Jay Fisher this question. I've seen some he made that were nothing short of remarkable.

ive used my sharpmaker on my emerson folding karambit. it was difficult to fine a good way to sharpen it since it is chisle ground. I also sharpen my tasman salt spyderco. and you need to use a rotating turn toward you as you sharpen. there is a dvd that comes with the sharpmaker that provides info on how to sharpen hawbill blades which can be similar to karambits. This really depends on what type of grind your karambit is. Good luck
