Looking for KMG clone plans

Hello,

I'm looking for a set of KMG clone plans. While the build pages have been helpful, what I need most is measurements for parts (basically a set of bulletproof blueprints) which I can use to build this thing in a buddies shop. I would have access to a mill, but will more than likely buy the wheels from Beaumont to save some lathe time. PDF file is fine, but AutoCAD is acceptable as well.

Thanks!

I hesitate to post this, as I have great respect of Rob and Beaumont Metal Works, and I almost feel like I'm ripping them off. However, this information is out there freely from another very well respected maker, and if I understand correctly, Rob doesn't mind too much as long as you're making this for your own use.

Tracy Mickley has a set of no-weld plans that you can buy from $25. Check out:
www.usaknifemaker.com

Not saying they are better or worse than those plans (I have the plans listed). They are different and I think it's probably a little cheaper to build his.

I don't think anyone is ripping Rob off, 3 wheel grinders aren't new. His are quality machines at a good price and anyone who doesn't want to do the work themselves has a great vendor to go to.

If you decide to use Mike's plans the pdf file is imcomplete. I have the extra page, I can send you if you want. Ken Kelly has a thread on Don's forum. He walks you through his clone build, complete with pictures and many questions answered in the thread. It is not a hard build, but Mr Mickley's plans looks easier and the reviews of his "clone" have been good. You will be glad no matter which you build:thumbup:

Thanks!

Tommegow - I would appreciate the extra page. You could post it or e-mail me, whichever is easier.

I also understand the concerns with ethics of "building your own". I understand that it is allowable and legal to build a clone of any manufactures machine as long as 1) trademarks or proprietary logos are not used to pass it off as an OEM product 2) it is for personal use and not for sale / personal financial gain.

Wish me luck!

Couple of points -

1. a while back Rob mentioned that his design came about as a result (in part) of design ideas circulated on this very forum. So to some extent the design is a community effort :)

2. If it aint' so :) then should you make a grinder like that, you can never ever sell any knife you make ever :) - which would be an extremely limiting factor IMO

3. I personally made a grinder of my own design - a vertical plate with tool arm channel and direct drive (driving wheel on the motor's shaft). This is one is also much easier to make. Take a look
