Hi there, I am looking for classes in the Missouri area. I would like a basic class that teaches knife making 101. There was one in the Ozarks that is no longer offering classes. If anyone knows of any or has any insight, please let me know. Thank you!

The best way I've found to learn anything is to find somebody who knows what you want to learn very well (or at least better than you do), and learn from them.

You might want to see if there's a good smith in your area and ask if he needs an apprentice.

If you're in MO you're in knife central. There's stuff all around you, you just have to get up and go to it. But it's easier if you join some of the clubs that exist for people who are interested in knives.

1. Go to some knife shows, there are a fair number of them in and around St Louis and that's not counting the ones in smaller venues. Talk to some makers.
2. Contact the American Bladesmith Society, the Knifemakers Guild, and the Arkansas Knifemakers Society.
3. Attend a hammer in or two, or every one you can.
4. Go to your local trade tech and take some machine shop courses.
5. Read a book, there are several very good books on making knives.
6. youtube.

Filling out your profile with location and soma stuff about you will help.

The ABS school is in Washington, Arkansas.
