I'm in south western CT and I'm new to knife making and I'm looking for someone to help me learn the ropes. If possible I'm also looking to rent some shop time because I don't have a place to set up a shop right now.

Thank you,

Scott

Hey Scott,
I live down in Larchmont and have a small shop in my basement. I am still pretty new to knifemaking but you are welcome to stop by some weekend and I will show you how I grind blades, handles and heat treat. I'm on knife #15 or so now so not exactly mentor material but willing to share what I have learned.

Stuart thank you for the offer. I will definitely take you up on that. I grew up in Mamaroneck so I know the area pretty well.

Scott,

I'm across the river from Stuart. I just have a basement and garage shop situation but you can stop by and I can walk you through how I do it here. Joe is my teacher. He is super knowledgeable and very nice. I recommend his classes if and when you can swing it. In the mean time I'm happy to share what I've learned.

Where exactly are you? I'm in Greenwich and that's as far Southwestern as you can get in CT. Unfortunately I don't think I can offer you any assistance at the moment. I made that offer before and then told my wife I'd like to have someone come by the shop. She put a stop to it as she didn't want a stranger in the house. I said he's not a stranger, he's a knifemaker and we're one big family. She wasn't buying it. She's a good girl though but some woman are like that. Who knows, maybe if we run in the same circles it will be an easy sell.

Good point Mark! I didn't mention to my wife that I invited Scott over (Did you get my email Scott?) - will just spring it on her as she is usually sensitive about people seeing how messy the rest of our basement is haha! It would be fun to get together sometime- most of my friends think it is pretty crazy that I am making knives so would be nice to have someone to relate to!
