I only have the Benchmade small Barrage and I like even with the plastic handles. I think it would make a great general purpose knife. The assisted open feature makes it kind of fun.
In the Spyderco line, the Native 5 is hard to beat for a general purpose knife to take camping. You might like something with a bit longer blade and there are larger Spydercos if you like.
The knife I take camping and in the woods the most is a Victorinox Swiss Army Knife. Always there and always reliable for cutting chores and occasional bottle opening, removal of a thorn with the tweezers, and so forth. I usually carry a moderate size fixed blade as well in the woods but seldom really have a need for it.
