Looking for lightweight EDC blade

So I'm looking to buy my first knife. I'm a college student and I'd like something relatively lightweight. I've been leaning towards the Spyderco Tenacious, Sog Aegis mini, and Sog Flashback mini and the reason because what I wanted in a blade would be:

- Blade length 3"-3.5" (I live in CT so nothing more than 4")
- Around 4oz or less
- $60 or less
- Rust resistant

And then these aren't that important but what had me leaning towards the Sogs and Spyderco.
- Black coated blade
- Blade shape: Drop point/Leaf

I'm open to suggestions and the reason why I made this thread is to see what other options I have. Also, prices change and new blades come out. Thanks.

Kershaw skyline should be on the list. As should the Spyderco Endura.
Good luck.

The knife that got me into collecting fits right into your requirements - a Kershaw Leek. They make numerous variants of blade and handle finishes and materials. The 1660CKT can easily be found for under $60.

The amount of options make it hard to pick and the way I will be using them means that they'll all be fine. I could always just buy them all...the knife buying addiction.

Save a little more money and consider the Manix 2 Lightweight it's 3.25 inches and 3 ounces.

I second the Kershaw Leek. I have a black one that I love so much I also picked one up in stainless with the composite blade.

You enter this world during interesting times for < $50 knives. Probably more really good ones out there than ever.

Rats
Utilitacs
Avi / Zancudo
Recons I guess....
Not sure about the pocket bushman...

Probably anything recommended on the forum will not disappoint.

So many options. Rats are solid and the utilitac looks nice.

How about newer blades that were released within last year?

Anything from Kershaw or spyderco could do the job - buy the one you think looks the best (only way you figure out what you really like in knives is by trying many different styles and starting based on looks is all you have until you try several) . Also I like my cold steel mini recon which you can score under 60. I bought the Kershaw thermite as a first knife for a friend and I was really impressed given the $30 price.

The Tenacious is a fine knife. But I would recommend the Spyderco UKPK. Around 1.8oz, FGG blade, Spyderco Wire clip (maybe the best clip on the market), VERY deep carry (maybe the deepest carry Spyderco, as a student you will appreciate), Made in the ol' USA, better then most FRN I have seen, and under $45 bucks to boot. The best of everything Spyderco. You would be surprised the difference between 4oz vs 2oz. Yes, it does not have a lock, but that is it's best feature unless you really need it for really hard use. Think about what your going to use it for. One handed both open and close, and back in the pocket, simple and easy. It really is Spyderco's sleeper knife and by FAR best value, and I think them having the "UK" in the name really puts allot of people off, like it was designed for restrictions so must somehow be inadequate. It's very, very close to about as perfect light duty EDC you could find and it's made in the USA.

Try the Tenacious or one of its brothers, there are a few in the line, all made the same except size. I have the Persistence from the line, a little smaller than the tenacious, and it is an excellent edc. Spyderco has cornered the inexpensive, quality edc market with this line of knives. There fit and finish rival knives costing four times their price. I really can't say enough about them. I was a staunch Kershaw guy until I bought my persistence and now I hunt spydercos for purchasing. Here is a pic of mine in my hand for size reference. I have a medium to large hand. The blades are ffg and Cr8mov13 steel. The liners are a medium G10. Just a great line of knives. Check out you tube reviews, they are almost 100% positive. Last but not least you can usually pick a new one up from $25 to $35 😜

Spyderco tenacious line, kershaw skyline, kershaw leek, spyderco delica, spyderco endura, byrd cara cara 2, byrd meadowlark 2. Just to name a few.

ESEE Avispa. Just talked my buddy on here into one. He called me an enabler. But they're probably the best knife design/steel for the money and then some. The cutting performance is better than many of my more expensive folders that have been getting left at home.

Im gonna say the same thing I do for every thread like this.

Kershaw Knockout- Its slim, light (3.4 oz), lots of blade for its handle, 4 way deep carry clip and made in the USA. Other than the

$45 for a blem from Kershawguy.com

Which is more important? Light or modern styling?

If it's light you want, the Opinel N8 or N9 will give you lots of great blade for next to nothing. Tough as heck, too.

I picked up a Boker Gemini Badger a year or two ago, and it might fit your specs: 3.25 ounces, 3.375" blade, made in Germany for $50, give or take a few bucks. Available with or without serrations, satin or black blade.
