Looking for my first Bowie knife

I would love to have one of those buck 124s.
CS has a VERY substantial tang under the kraton, and it's not that difficult to upgrade it to something more traditional looking.
Remove the lanyard tube, slip off the kraton, add birch bark, leather, or wood and it's like a whole new knife! :)

Thanks! I really appreciate the info...I have been bothered about this problem for a while!

Wow! That is a really beautiful 1st Gen Trail Master!

ReconScout, actually - but thanks. It was a learning experience playing with the birch bark.

At that price if you can find an older Coldsteel Trailmaster in Carbon V......simply cannot go wrong!! It is thick, sharp and will just chop and work as long as you can swing/use her!!!

Another vote for Blackjack, and another chance to recycle this picture :o. This one has a meaty 1/4" tang going all the way to the pommel. Others will probably have thinner tangs but be plenty strong. You could even get some stag models for under $200.
