Looking for my first decent folder.

Cold Steel knives look a lot less tactical once you get that awful coating off them but if there not your style check out the Zero Tolerance knives. There also some good hard use knives.

Spyderco Native FRN is awesome for the price. Very ergonomic and factory fresh the S30V blade is very sharp. If you take advantage of the great, splinter-picker tip you will keep it's edge. If you are poking hard stuff with it all the time, you probably won't snap off the tip but take a chip off of it's edge - something people have confused a lot lately on forums and youtube.

It has the best bang for the buck ratio of all Spyderco folders, I think. To me it doesn't look tactical at all, it just looks Spyderco. Perfect size for most people's EDC.

The mini bone collector is a nice choice. Love the axis lock.
I personally lean toward the Spyderco PM2 and Manix2, but my hands are big. For a little smaller, the Native is a nice handler in an easily carried size.
New Native 5 with G10 and FFG blade would make a great EDC, and is in the range. Or the smaller Chaparral with Carbon-Fiber scales.
Alternatively, between the two (price- and weight-wise), but with a linerlock - I was pleasantly surprised by the handy and easy to use Sage 1 - could be a perfect EDC. If I didn't have a BM940 in my pocket (another great choice, but a little out of your price range) and a sprint-run PM2 on order, I probably would have picked it up.

Thank you for all the suggestions. They are much appreciated.
There is so much to know about knives! The knowledge keeps overflowing.

Why are you people so helpful!

The Native 5 with G10 looks like it would be perfect for me. Most ideal.
... But... I can't get that Spyderco Sage II out of my head.
(I have no idea how a Titantium handle would feel in my hands under medium-ish harsh usage.)

Spyderco is very good with their ergonomics and not having hot spots in grip. Of course not all handles suit all people.

I've decided to go with the Spyderco Sage II.
Looks too nice to pass up.

Thank you all for your recommendations.
And thank you for a nice first post experience.

Great choice! Good luck with it and come back to share your experiences.

Good choice there, I love titanium too.

Sunog = burn in Filipino.
