Looking for my first ESEE

I love my 4. It's small enough to easily carry, but still has the blade length to do a decent job at batoning wood. It's also very well balanced and is comfortable to use. I paired mine up with an Izula II and now my addiction is becoming worse because I want a 6.

Pairing up the 4 with an Izula II is a great pair....really pairing up an Izula with a 4 or higher is a great combination!

I haven't received my 6, but I think my Izula II, 3 or 4 (serrated?), and 6 will make a great team.

Welcome to the forum Huxley!

Based on what you have said, I think the 4 would serve you well.

My first ESEE was the 4, the 3 however is my go to knife. The 4 is to big for urban use, the 3 can do both...for me. 3 and 6 is a good combo.

4's a good in between. For woods, I'd suggest a 6. EDC, a 3. But if it's gotta be one knife for both tasks, the 4 is up to it. For me, It takes the bootclip from the 3 just fine, and I carry it around town in my right front pocket. It feels pretty big at first, but you get used to it fast.

The 4 is a killer general purpose knife. I pair mine with an izula on most hiking and camping trips. The 4 is great from batonning to cooking. But whichever you choose you won't be disappointed.

I started with a 3 more as a camp knife then a wood craft knife. I have decided to work my way up. My next planned purchase is a 4. I am sure I will eventually have a matched set.

Oh yeah I plan on a Izula folder when preorder is announced soon.

Well decisions been made. I just had to go through my buddies camping gear (sadly took his life in November) and saw that he had a ESEE 4. I'll be ordering mine from TKC, thanks for the input. I'm going to head over to the Rat Pack number thread and see if I can request a number that's a bit higher up than where they're at now. I know I dont have enough useful threads yet, but I saw a few things in my buddies stuff that makes me want to get the number placed on future ESEE purchases. Thanks again!

The 4 is a great knife. The 4 is designed to be more wilderness oriented, while the 3 is more military and tactical oriented, or at least that's what I understand from reading the ESEE website. Great knives either way. I'm putting up a review and analysis of my Izula, ESEE-4, and Junglas later tonight.

I have a year of good hard use with the ESEE 4, and good god it's an amazing knife. I was originally springing for the ESEE 3 but the site where I ordered it from sent me the 4 and a RAT RC-3 for some reason. When I got my hands on the 4 it was an experience. In the end the choice is yours really, but you cant go wrong with an ESEE!

As a SHTF survival knife i'd go with the 5 but you cant go wrong with the 4. Great size, all round knife.

The 5 and izula2 are one hell of a combo. Dont listen to the naysayers that the 5 is to big. I carved a baton to use with the 5 last night, thought the izula would be best to use, nope, after struggling with it for a couple minutes I picked up the 5 and went at it. My 5 sees more and more use, its deffinetly my go to knife.

Firstly let me say I am sorry for your loss. If you plan on getting the 4 from TKC you should definitely pick up a pair of those g10 handles. I got some in midnight tiger and they are amazing. The fit and finish is surprisingly good considering they were made without the knife. In case you didn't know ESEE hand shapes every handle for their knives. I can't recommend them enough.
