Well I'm close to needing to ordering some hogging belts in 36x and 60x. I'm using ole Regalites, I'm looking at gators or blazes, what do you prefer and where are you ordering them from for the best prices?

I prefer the Blaze belt for hoggin.I Get mine from tru-grit, The gators are not good for taking off a lot of material but will give you a good finish.

Another vote for the Blaze Orange Belt - last a very long time - amazing belts. I have used the 36 grit belt - it almost takes steel off too fast...

i run to supergrit and get my hogging belts 36 and 50-60 just whatever steel hoggin belt they have on hand for me
then i swap to the gators to clean up the scratch pattern

i have yet to use a 36 how do thay compare to the 60 for hoging steel. i love the blaze belts.

Another vote for Blaze. For profiling blanks i use the 24 grit, they work very fast, just watch your knuckles :(

i could never get into 24 and 36 grit for grinding bevels
for me 50-60 are much more smooth in there steel removal

I go from Blaze 50s to gator 220s and then gator 400s. The last time I actually counted I got 7 (HONESTLY 7!!!) blades ground on one blaze belt, and 3 of them were CPM154 blades. Sure at the end of seven the belt was dull, but not too dull to use for profiling etc. That's an awful lot of wear from a 7 dollar belt from TRUGRIT. I need to add, that I generally profile with an angle grinder, then disc sander, and then use the Blaze to cut in bevels. Obviously using the Blaze 50's for profiling would surely decrease their life quite a bit......Grinding wheels for an angle grinder are cheap.

I also vote for the Blaze belts! Some may think I'm crazy, but I use 50 grit Blaze belts, grinding until almost finished, then go straight to an X30 Norax (400 grit) and finish up. Doing this cuts 2 grit sizes and about 45 mins off finish grinding a blade.

man 24 grit. im looking to speed up my profileing as i dont have a bandsaw. do thay make blaze in 24.

Karl, I tried the blaze belts when they first came out and decided that for a dollar more a belt that they didn't last that much longer than the norton Hoggers that I usually get. They did cut a little better initially but I couldn't get any more use out of them than the hoggers in terms of blades ground. I found myself switching them out faster because the initial cut was better, and not using them as long so I went back to the red hoggers. this was with a side by side comparison starting with new belts in both types. I only tried the 36 grit though.

now i need to do another order. did you know trugrit might be upping prices as someone complaned to norton that trugrits prices were cheeper then his distribitor. go figure. when using 24 grit do i have to wory about striping grit off on sharp edges when profileing.

I used to use the Blaz belts. They work wonderfully. Then I switched to the hoggers at www.abrasivesrus.com. They're an Arizona outfit. Their hoggers will give half or better the performance of a Blaze at less than half the price. That amounts to a net savings. I just reordered yesterday, for the third time.

I use a 36 for rough grinding, then a 60 to clean up. The 36's seem to just rip chunks out they are so agressive. I use whatever is mostly worn out for profiling.

Looks like their checkout process isn't working. Thanks for the link, I'll try later. Can't beat $1.55/ea. Have to see how they compare to Klingspor and Blazes.
