anyone know a good source for a nylon shell with hood for hiking?

hopefully it will have full zipper.....but not imperative.

any opinons?

I have a Columbia one that I am very happy with. It also packs into its own pocket for storage.

I've got a couple of Helly Hansen that have held up very well. I got my wife a Red Ledge and she likes that one, I think it has pit zips., too. Try www.campmor.com they have a good selection.

Try looking on boating and fishing sights. They have some nice light windbreakers with hoods.

bill, I haven't used that particular jacket, but I have had very good luck with all of the SD products I've purchased in the past.
my personal inclination is to take along a softshell jacket, but they are kinda spendy. check around and see if you can get a better price on that at one of the outlet sites. seconding campmor.

THRIFT STORES seriously. I found a patagoina pullover ripstop 1/4 zip DWR hoodie in the triftstore for 3.50 it just had the tags removes and a tiny burn near the cuff

I have that Microlight. It is super light and does great with wind. I usually have it or an OR equivalent stuffed into my bag on hikes. Don't expect it to do any good in the rain though, or you will get SOAKED.
