Hello, I would like to get a fixed blade that can be used for edc. I would like something with a 3.5-4 inch plain edge blade, micarta handles, and a clip sheath. I would like to stay between 100-120 dollars. I prefer something other than 1095 blade steel if possible. We are planning a trip south to Sevierville, so any recommendations are welcome.

It’ll cost you $5.00 for the answer. J/K. Atleast he entered some damn parameters.

its going to be real hard to find a fixed blade made out of any of the good stainless steels for less than 200 let alone around 100.I would suggest going with an ESEE fixed blade in the length you want.I have an esee 3-mil and put some thicker aftermarket scale on it and put it on my apex edge pro and stropped it-now it is uber sharp.I wear it camping every other weekend and it is really comfortable in a horizontal sheath.

True, steel upgrades means more cash. Esee does offer some nice knives. I had the Izula 2 and it was definitely high quality.

Spyderco makes some stainless fixed blades in that range but not with micarta handles. Whats more important, blade steel or handle material? Tops uses micarta but most of their blades are 1095 steel.

Shouldn't be that hard to find. Sheath may be the only hangup. Go go bladehq and click fixed blades, then click filter and add all that apply. They have length and price and material filters and start browsing. It's a good way to see brands you dont know about or just find something cool.

Check out Kizer's line of fixed blades. The stainless models start at about $120.
I bought a Hennicke T-II in S35VN steel and it's very well made. The blade is 3 3/4" , but the handle is G10 not Micarta.
The sheath is Kydex with a clip.

If you can increase your budget a little, the Bradford Guardian lineup is outstanding. I have a G3 and a G6. They offer kydex sheaths with various clip options.

I agree about the bradford line --they are a premium fixed blade using top steel choices and handle materials--just about twice what you want to spend though.

You can snag a Guardian 3 in N690(European upgraded version of VG10) for around $100. That's a solid deal. M390/3V are available but run more. I'm not really sure what the larger models run with that steel(if he even makes 'em).

I didn't like the izulu series although it was of high quality. The dinky handlles bothered me.

if you are at least moderately flexable with blade steel, I might look at some of the new Condor options, they have taken to using a black and natural canvas micarta on a lot of their newer smaller fixed blades... they use good steel, have a fair blade coat, great sheaths for the money.... IMHO very overlooked.

other than that..... it kinda sounds like a spyderco aqua salt would just almost be perfect, though I do not like H1 steel in plain edge.....I much prefer it in serrated..... but to each his own.

Kizlyar Supreme makes a few knives in the specs and price range you're looking for. Their D2 is the real deal. Best D2 production blades I've ever owned. I hear they've also started producing knives in M390 and S35VN. Their sheaths are very high quality for production knives.

Good luck with the search, and post up what you wind up with.

Check out the reputable knife makers in the "knifemakers - for sale - subforum" right here on bladeforums...

Can Find some great deals there

Bradford makes some great knives ... and most a bit higher priced (worth it but just saying) ... and I did make a mistake about the Micarta thankfully somone saw and corrected me ... they do come in Micarta I knew that I have three ... brain fart my apology.

I would agree for your priice point Becker model of your choice and Micarta scales would be about your budget and yes 1095 but some of the best available.

You may look at LT Wright they offer some models in AEB-L that may check most you boxes and are some of my favorite knives ... some close to your prices ...

Battle Horse Knives also ... the make a model called the SMALL WORKHORSE MT (MID TECH) it is S35VN and a bit higher at $170 I believe but it is a very nice EDC ... they may offer other models in stainless steels I'm not sure.

Niolox at that price, (i would take a chance with Kizlyar Supreme; their 440c and D2 both performed great in my experiences with them, and if you don't like the sheath, that can be remedied right here on BF witb a custom sheath maker).

Other production brands I'd look at in your budget are; Benchmade Steep Country, something by Boker Arbolito, or Kizlyar's D2/440c/Aus8 stuff...

Buck 420hc by Bos isn't bad stuff for a very basic/tough stainless, and some 5160 stuff is available by Buck if other basic carbon steels are acceptable, but still not 1095...

What's wrong with 1095? It's a great steel! Pick up a Becker BK15 or BK16 and save the rest for an aftermarket sheath or something.

Absolutely nothing wrong with 1095. I have had numerous knives in 1095 and want to try something different.
