I have a friend who is a mechanical engineering student and a knife knut. For one of his senior projects he is making a frame lock folding knife. The project deals with the assembly of the handle and the tolerances of the lock. So, here's the deal, he's using a blade from a pre-made china cheapy for the blade for this project since he doesn't have to make the blade. The blade has a pivot hole size of 6mm. The hole on the handle is going to be 5.8mm. He needs a pivot screw that well fit the hole as closely as possible. The closest I have been able to find so far is 5mm. 1/4 of an inch is too big but 3/16 is too small. Anyone know where I can find something that will fit a little better than 5mm. Thanks for the help.

I'm not sure I totally understand your question. But if you're looking for a screw that is close to 5.8 mm, size 12 has a major diameter of .216, which is about 5.5 mm.

This is a chance for him to learn. Look around for someone that has a small metalworking lathe and have it made. There are many shops that would jump at the chance to work with a student and assist with their education. Making a custom part for that knife is a snap for a good machinist. Having him design the screw, draw it up on a blueprint and finding someone to make it will be a great learning experience for him. Plus, he'll be able to watch his design be created.

Thanks for the advice guys. We actually found a pivot screw with a diameter of 5.92mm so it will fit the 6mm blade hole and he'll just have to make the handle hole a hair wider. So, i think he's set. But thanks again for the advice.
