Looking for quality barlow

I'm looking for either a high quality production barlow style folder or info on somebody who makes them. I know that Case makes one, but I believe it's a single bladed model(I think). I'm looking for a two bladed model. I had an old Boker that was nice but lost it and the new I replaced it with just isn't the same quality.

Thanks,
Jay

Jay,

What kind of cutting are you going to be doing with that Barlow?

Nothing too heavy. I plan on just throwing it in pocket when I don't want to carry one of my big folders. Mostly opening packages or slicing an apple. Maybe whittling a stick to roast marshmellows. Pocket knife stuff. I just like the style better of the barlow better than other pocket knives. If I liked the stockman style, I'd be all set.

I would suggest either Buck or Winchester. They are good quality knives that offer durability at an affordable price.

Thanks for the start. I was not aware that Buck still made a barlow. I've loked on some on line store sites without much luck. I'll check out Buck's site.

Thanks,
Jay

Jay,
I collect Barlows and this is up my alley.

What Jason is trying to say without tooting his own horn is that Smokey Mountain Knife Works sell both models and they are both excellent knives.

I recommend the Winchester. Why? It is made from Queen and is of very high quality under $30. I own two of them and there is no blade play and the springs are very tight.

You won't be disappointed.

Email me if you have more questions.

Almost every multi-store in my area carries the Winchester barlows for around $20 if I remember right. Look to be good quality, seems they are always hanging in the gun section next to the register. Its like they are saying.."Don't you want a pocket knife with your high powered shotgun today?"

Thanks Kodiak.

I try not to push sales on the forums, due to the respect I have for Spark and Mike and the great community they have created. So I only mention Brands on less I am posting in the Dealers for Sale section.

They are available from Russell as a boxed, numbered set. It's been advertised in the major knife mags for several months.

I'll look through my mag collection and post later.

Hi Jason,
I figured that was what you were doing. That was very respectful of you. Truth is that the Remington green over yellow barlow made by Camillus in 1095 and the Winchester, Buck line are all well made and not very expensive. The Winchester impresses me the most and when I found out Queen made it I realized why. Those guys do not know how to make a crappy knife.

Sometimes people associated SMKW with cheaper knives....the quality knives are there, you just have to look. I took a chance on the Winchester. Liked it and bought the whole line and an extra barlow for collecting.

Folks, if you are interested in a really nice single blade Barlow, look at the AG Russel Schatt and Morgan barlow that is now available. Very pretty...very well done. Doesn't surprise me since Schatt and Morgan knives are made by......Queen Steel!

Funny how that works.
