The Becker BK9 would be a great tool for you.

Becker makes a great product. I love the BK7 that I have. Excellent steel. The handle feels just perfect and you can't beat the price/quality ratio. The sheath is even a good one.

A swamp rat Battle Rat may suit you if you can find one. The handle feels great and the steel is second to none.

I have an original style Ratweiler, new/unused/never sharpened condition that I would sell you for 275

For a large blade the Ranger type knives are a good choice or a bolo/short 12 inch machete would be similiar to a BK1.

What is the knife at the top above the Ranger?

Try the Ontario SP5-93. 15+" 1095 steel and a cutting machine. Around $50. Or get a little wacky and try a Cold Steel Oyabun. I have used both of these BIG Boys in a Traditional deer camp with awsome results... L8R... ~baba~

Another option in that blade size and cost is the Kershaw Outcast in D2. Mine has performed well in both camp chores and chopping with nary a nick.

Please don't take this as an attempt to put your knife down brians but I have read that large chopping type blades do not fare well in D2 and are prone to chipping, have you not found this to be the case with yours?
I do however think it is a great looking blade!!!!!!!

Pit Man,

No problems yet. It often accompanies me harvesting cedars on my property where I need both hands to carry out the logs. It will fell and limb 4-6 inch cedars all day and not show any wear.

I have mastered the wrist-based snap that enables this blade shape to cut and chop very well.

I have no idea why you would want to hump a big ole knife like that around in the woods, A Ka Bar is way bigger than most need, and I prefer even smaller knife like a BRKT fox river. Just easier to carry a smaller knife.

I camp, hunt, fish, and Canoe all over the northwoods. I find a big knife is not used all that much. I tend to carry a smaller hatchet and a 4 inch bladed knife. On a canoe trip where fish will be the intended dinner, I like to carry a 8 inch fillet knife, but that and the other still weigh less than the big chunk of steel that you are looking for.
