as stated above, i've never owned a knife of my own but am looking to, particularly an inexpensive smaller blade with a partially serrated edge. automatic or folding is also preferred. as for the inexpensive bit, anything $30 dollars or under would be great as i don't have a steady income. i'm looking for something with sharp edges. past this i have no other particular specs. please let me know if you have any recommendations that fit these parameters, i would seriously appreciate it! thank you in advance

edit: i was thinking of getting a half serrated kershaw clash - it's a good size, the pocket clip is wide, it's practical and durable for its price, and it's just really smooth and ha a nice sleek look to it. if you guys have any oppositions go ahead but for now i think that's what i'm gonna get!

Well your specs are not too specific, and inexpensive can include a wide range of bugets. My first thoughts would be a lower end spyderco with the serrated blade, ie Ambitious at 2.3” or Persistence at 2.7”, both under $50. For a heavier use and cheaper, the Cold Steel Tuff lite serrated at 2.5” around $30.

thank you, this was really helpful! i'll add more specifications as soon as i figure them out

Welcome nico!

Are there specific tasks that you encounter in daily life that require a knife?
i dont need it for anything more on the adventurous side, mostly just for cutting things in general and also just to have it, i really like knives so even if i wasnt going to use it on a daily basis it would still be a worthwhile purchase for me personally. i think the toughest thing i would ever cut with it would be rope unless i take it with me on some kind of trip in the wilderness (which hardly ever happens).

Tuff lite do a serrated.

Mabye even the click and cut. (But I haven't played with one. )

But once you have blunted your serrated knife. You don't have to fart around with sharpening it.

Or if you mess that process up.

You did not specify whether you were looking for fixed blades or folders, modern or traditional, locking or non-locking, etc. So here are some high value but low cost options I've enjoyed over the years:

Keep an eye out on the exchange here on Bladeforums. I was lucky enough to score a serrated Spyderco Tasman Salt 1 for not much more than $30.. if memory serves it was $40. It’s become one of my favorite knives that I own.

Welcome to the forum. I will also recommend a Cold Steel Tuff Lite. It performs above it's price and size. Another option is to check pawn shops and thrift stores to see if they have anything that meets your criteria. Let us know what you decide.

i think i might have found something i like, if i don't come across any troubles i'll be saving for it

Do you have to have full serrated or are you open to partial?

I ask because I think the Gerber Paraframe would be a perfect starter knife for you. It was for me. And they've got a couple different size options to boot!

i think id actually prefer a partial, ill edit the main message to add that!

Spyderco Tenacious is inexpensive, has great blade shape and ergonomics, the liner lock is very good, and it available in partial serrations as well as coated blade or not. It is a lot of knife for the money and I use them for chores/hard use.
