I am about to purchase a bunch of belts for the craftsman 2x 42 grinder so I can start grinding my own blades and was wondering if anyone give me some pointers on how many belts of each grit I should be getting? Below is a brief summary of what I am looking to do. Again any recommendations on my proposed belt progression and proposed belt quantities would be greatly appreciated!

Number of blades I am planning to grind: 8
Blade Steel: AEB-L
Blade Finish: Satin

Grit progression and initial quantity guestimates.

Grit (Qty)
36 (4x)
60 (4x)
120 (4x)
______HEAT TREAT_______
120 (4x)
220 (4x)
400 (2x)
A160 (2x)
A100 (2x)
A65 (2x)

Your first progression for Heat Treated blades is Fine! That's what I do. AEB-L 440C, Carbon Damascus and all of the rest! 36, 60 and 120 and then to your finishing belts, I use Cork & Scotchbrite belts after the 120

www.trugrit.com has Ceramic belts in that size...
How many to buy depends on how you grind? Generally, The finer belts wear out faster... i suggest you just get 10 of each and after a while you see how you go through them? You usually get a price break at 10 belts.

Hope this helps? Also Welcome!
