Looking For S30V or Similar Folder

Spyderco Delica ZDP-189.
Or One Of My Favorites:
Spyderco Native - Black Heavy Duty FRN Handles - Nice Clip - s30v Steel - 3" Blade - A Workhorse - This Knife Is Amazing And Under $50.
I Love The Native. I've Owned A Few.

If you're willing to try a small fixed blade, the Scrapyard Scrapivore sounds pretty dang good. Well under $100 shipped with an excellent kydex sheath. Unbeatable warranty, very little maintenance.

Damn you.... I just ordered two.

Never knew about that knife. Should be a great performer!

Wow, thank again for all of the great suggestions. :D

Truth be told, the 3" blade length is the only strict requirement. And that limit includes the total length of the knife, not just the actual cutting length of the blade. Reason for this is that I am in L.A. often, and the city is very strict on this aspect.

Price limit is always somewhat flexible, so if stepping up just a tiny bit above $100 gets me something far superior, then of course I'm gonna consider it. ;)

I do also really want the flipper, or if that's not possible then I'd like something renowned for smooth and efficient deployment.

I'm gonna look up all of the new suggestions, do some more reading, and see what catches my eye.

Thx guys!

y hasnt no1 paid attention to the native i suggested?

I did check it out, and while it looks wonderful I'm really needing to stay at a 3" blade maximum. Unfortunately the Native has cutting edge of 2.625", but the length of entire blade is 3.125".

According to my data, the large Vantage has a blade 3.25", and that's what I measure along the spine from the tip to the grip.

The small Vantage has a blade length of 2.625", or 2 5/8"

It's a great knife.

So you're looking for a knife that is 3" overall when open? Or closed?

I'm not a lawyer. But last time I checked, the 3" L.A. law only had to do with openly carried knives.

http://www.joedane.com/faq/135/
That law defines “knives and daggers” as “any knife having a blade of three inches or more in length; any spring-blade, switch-blade or snap-blade knife; any knife any blade of which is automatically released by a spring mechanism or other mechanical device; any ice pick or similar sharp stabbing tool; any straight-edge razor or any razor blade fitted to a handle.” Section 13.62.020 makes it unlawful for any person to carry a knife or dagger [as defined in 13.62.010] in plain view.

The first section is simply to describe what constitutes a knife or dagger. It is the bolded section that tells what is illegal, and that is only the carrying IN PLAIN VIEW of a knife or dagger. AKA Open Carry.

Which means you can still carry a 4" blade folder in your pocket.

Interesting. Looks like the 3" limit just went out the window. Time to re-think this thing. ;)

OP has been edited to reflect new length limit of 3.75".

I'll go back to the very first suggestion. The Para military 2. No it doesn't have a flipper, but it opens really fast and very smooth.

Also the Zero Tolerance 0350. It's an assisted flipper and can be had for close to $100 if you shop around.

I decided to get the Endura ZDP-189. It doesn't have the flipper that I wanted, but the steel sounds awesome and the price is a good bit under $100. Sounds like a good trade-off to me.

Do all Endura ZDP-189's have the ffg? It seems like that's the case according to the Spyderco web site (see bolded text here: http://www.spyderco.com/catalog/details.php?product=284), but then I see some pics with a saber ground blade when doing searches on the net. I just want to make sure I get this right because I definitely want the ffg.

Also, if anyone would be willing to share recommended vendors (via post or PM--whatever complies with the rules), I would really appreciate it.

I am not so sure you will notice much difference between VG10 and S30V. Also, VG10 is slightly easier to sharpen and takes a keener edge in my experience.
