Hey guys, i could use some help choosing my next traditional folder.

Im looking for one with a single blade at least 3 inches long and, heres the hard part, under 30 bucks.

Im sure I'll get a few opinel suggestions but ive already got one and the problem is they're a little bulky for front pocket carry. I would prefer something with a thinner profile overall so i can carry it comfortably in a front pocket.

Thanks for the suggestions!

I love my new AG Russell Rancher. 3" exactly. The Cowboy is a little longer, like the jr and sr sodbusters. The Rancher is slimmer than a sodbuster. The Cases are under $50; I don't know about other makes of the sodbuster type.

They aren't slip joints, but what about a Mercator(lock back) or a higo no kami(friction folder)? I've wanted to try a Mercator for a while now, but it keeps getting pushed to the back burner. I absolutely love my higo.
Then of course there is a whole mess of different sod busters.

If your are looking for a plain jane user, i picked up a bear and son farmhand sodbuster style knife for under $30. Sorry if its not considered traditional.

What about Case slimline trapper 61048 if I'm not wrong, one of the workman line with delrin scales and as ground finish on the blade should be around that price tag in the US
I love it as a food knife.
Also If you like a more rustic style a lot of european countries have a lot of wooden handled traditionals most of them under that price too
some taramundi, my favourites

regards Mateo

Buck 110. Under $30 at a big box store "everyone" loves to hate (but still shop there)
You won't notice the weight on your belt.

I was also going to suggest the slimline trapper by Case. You can find one in delrin around your price point.

I found a few pictures on the web. Looks plenty traditional to me.

Could always go for the Victorinox Alox Solo. There's a couple floating around the bay.

some single blade trapper must fall under these categories, if not a used gec ben hogan?

I would second scrteened porch's suggestion of AG Russell knives. They make some really quality stuff for the price. I like their medium lockback Barlow, which is 3 1/2" closed. The yellow delrin runs about $35, ebony rucarta and cocobolo are $5 to $10 more.

Boker one blade Trappers are just a hair over your budget but very nice thet come in both a standard and a slim line. (Thanks again Jack)

my pleasure, do enjoy them! my god, invicta, we gotta do something about that watch  :D

Thread title says under $50, but the post itself says under $30. That makes a big difference. So which is it? Under $30, you will need to look for something made in China. Rough Rider or perhaps something from AG Russell as previously suggested, or maybe a Taylor Old Timer. Actually the Case Sod Busters can be found for under $30 with some diligent searching.

Under $50, you can get a Case Back Pocket in either Deep Canyon Dark Red Bone or Case Carhartt Brown G-10. There is a big Case dealer who has both of those listed in their "Specials" section for under $50 ($40 and $45, respectively). With shipping, should come in at $51 or below.

Since you are looking for a blade length of at least 3", then you are looking at a pocket knife of at least 4" closed (thereabouts). The Back Pocket line is 4 5/8" closed and will have a good blade length. Nice big sturdy well-made knives based on a Tony Bose design.

For a bit less, you could get the full-sized synthetic-handled Case Sod Busters (not the JR) - models 2138 SS in black, 4138 SS in navy blue, and 3138 CV in yellow, which are around $30 or under from multiple sources. They are also 4 5/8" closed.

Birthday present from my wife and after all these years I know better than to not wear it even if was a $2.00 plastic novelty watch from the big box store. By the way I made the decision to go ahead and give my son the Sub. I love these Boker's and still think my wife and I should adopt you.:D

Randy, in that case, its sacred. and I apologize for my comment! Very nice! I hope he enjoys it, the sub is too ubiquitous to me. I have very low key rolex tastes. well this one that's on the way soon isnt very low key. its just vintage. been meaning to get one like my grandfathers, but something else came up that was a good deal to me. may look into another one down the line that is like his.

These look like a solid option, how nice is their steel?
