Looking for single bladed folder under 50

I love my new AG Russell Rancher. 3" exactly. The Cowboy is a little longer, like the jr and sr sodbusters. The Rancher is slimmer than a sodbuster. The Cases are under $50; I don't know about other makes of the sodbuster type.

Between a case cv sodbuster and the rancher which do you think is a better knife?

These look like a solid option, how nice is their steel?

I bought a large one with black g10 and a small one with yellow g10. What attracted me to them is they are advertised as having carbon steel blades. So far they have held up well. Fit and finish is not perfect but for under $30 I guess you get what u pay for.

Tough call.
First of all, they are much closer to the same size than they look in my picture. Fit and finish is fancier on the rancher, but there's nothing wrong with the jr soddie. The rancher has Russell's celebrated pin to stop the edge from whacking the backspring, which is cool, but none of my soddies whack the spring anyway. The rancher is flatter in the pocket and the soddie is more comfortable in hand. I like the belly, breadth, and point on the rancher blade better than the shape of the soddie blade, but the soddie cuts beautifully. The rancher is tempered a little harder than Case stainless, but I'm not sure of the cv.
The rancher is made in China and there's no non-stainless option, so if you want American or patina, you want the soddie.

Here they are stacked.

All but one of these was under $30. A couple are under $10. Apologies for the crappy cell phone pic.
From the top, they are:
Higonokami
Svord mini peasant
Aitor Castor
Opinel No. 8
Opinel No. 10
MAM Tipica
MAM Douro
Douk-Douk
Mercator Black Cat
Rough Rider large toothpick
Cold Steel Kudu.

A pair like this cost $26 including shipping from Spain.

There are a couple of Opinel models with thinner handles, the garden knife (I have a No.8) and the Slim (the No.10 is almost the same size as the RR toothpick).

Many users will make their Opinels easier to carry by sanding flats on the sides of the handles, and rounding the heel.

Under $50.00?

BUCK 110 knife from a big box store.

You may (?) be able to find a BUCK '55' on sale at some other stores too.

NIB prices and quality made USA knives.

Some of the companies that advertise HERE on the BF and elsewhere online have some good deals on these knives too!

IMO, the Buck 110 is way too heavy for front pocket carry.

The large Case Sodbuster works well in the front pocket.

A flattened Opinel #9 works well in the front pocket, but that's more work than many will want to do.

The Buck 500 is very pocket friendly but is just 3" blade and usually close to $50.

In this size range, front pocket carry is tough. Stitching a seam up the side of my rear pocket for rear pocket carry has opened up a lot of possibilities. I can carry a 110 rear pocket easily
