Looking for some suggestions for a LEO type of knife.

I'm Air Force Security Forces and slot of the guys I work with carry smith and wesson, gerber, or sog knives. Or a leatherman. 95% of us don't run around with expensive knives. I carry a single edged infidel (most days), a protech tr-3, or an Umnumzaan. Have a combat troodon inbound. You can get the benchmade bone collector knives for less than $100. Me personally though I'd get a recon 1 or an American lawman at that price.

I cant believe no one has suggested the cold steel american lawman amazing knife

Nice knife, if you can operate the lock...

I am 100% in favor of a Kershaw JunkYardDog v2.2 BLEM from the KershawGuy...for about $59. I've had three; gave two away. Great D2 composite blade.
Built like a tank. Nice manual flipper.

Right now there are Spyderco Paramilitary 2s on that site that is named after a rainforest for $104. This is a legendary all around blade around here, and for good reason.

What's so much better about it vs the endura? They look identical

Thanks for the great Ideas! Right know I am leaning toward the Spyderco Delica with Wave. It is a bit smaller blade but I do have smaller hands. Though the price is a bit on the higher side. Maybe there are some used ones floating around... for under $50

I am most impressed by the cheapest knife I've purchased in the last year; about $59 for a blem, IIRC.
Kershaw JunkYardDog v2.2 is $69 on one site I just checked and NOT a blem.
Great composite blade using D2 as the cutting edge. A wonderful knife and I use it around the house and outside for trimming bushes. It is a solid lockup and strong as a bull. I really love this knife and have it in G10. You can buy a more expensive model in titanium but I like the cheapie better.

I'm a 20yr LEO & firearms instructor. We've done several classes on defensive tactics (grappling, knife defense, weapon retention, etc.) and while LEO's carry just about everything under the sun, several things (some of which you hit on) are good to remember:
1.) decent sized blade for defensive purposes
2.) Light weight - It seems over the years that agencies have come to the conclusion we are pack mules and continue to come up with more #### to put on our belts. Any weight saving measures one can make, even in the ounces, makes a big difference in being able to chase, fight, be comfortable and long term back issues.
3.) Don't limit yourself to just one - I carry two; one for last ditch defensive purposes and one for ED tasks. Sometimes I even carry three :)
4.) try an get used to carrying on your non gun side pocket OR if your dept. has cargo pants, the "pen" or "knife" pocket.
5.) Practice getting to an deploying your knife one handed from different positions. This will tell you where best to carry it AND more importantly develop muscle memory which is critical in a LOD situation.
There are other things to consider and the price (like you said) depends on how much you are willing to loose while chasing folks or wrestling with a drunk.
These are my two most often carried on duty. The Endura goes in my cargo knife pocket and the dragonfly clips into my shirt pocket.

All this being said, I do rotate out my main defensive knives every so often to try something new and I LOVE to carry my hinderer :)
